*edit* Yeah, like the damn fool that I am I typed "on" instead of "of".

Hey, it's December again and you know what that means...it's time for me to put out a list of albums that no ones has heard of or cares about. Unlike last years list, which was basically all indie rock and a metal album, this list should cover a wider variety of genres. Still, if you exclusively like DnB or Screamo or Metal or Gangster Rap, then you'll probably hate this list.

Oh, and there is 11 albums.

11: Sleigh Bells - Treats

Why is this on the list?: I might be the only person on the planet who likes actually likes this album. It's pretty much unlike anything out there right now. A strange mixture of Guitar driven noise and pop. I remember when I first listened listened to the album I broke out laughing at just how ridicules it was...this was in a good way. So even if there is a high chance that you'll hate them, it's worth giving it a shot.

10: Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma

Why is this on the list?: Do you watch Adult Swim? You know the block of programming on Cartoon Network that has Aqua Team Hunger Force. Yeah, that one. Flying Lotus scores many of the the White Text on black background scenes...yeah, and now you know one more piece of useless information. I guess what I'm getting at is that you've probably heard Flying Lotus' music before and Cosmogramma is great excuse to hear it again.

Oh, wow...it's hard to find a song that stands on it's own for this album. It works well together as a whole though.

09: Eliza Doolittle - Eliza Doolittle

Why is this on the list?: Dear god...it's like they decided to create the worst album art...ever. I mean like it's so bad that it's a little embarrassing to have on the list. Of course, it one saving grace of the album is everything else. Eliza Doolittle's debut album is poppy and fun.

I know it's disabled, but it takes just a little bit more effort to click on the video a second time and watch it on Youtube.

08: Cee Lo Green - Lady Killer

ladykiller.jpg

Why is this on the list?: Cee Lo Green is awesome, that's why. No seriously, he is awesome and his new album Lady Killer is about as awesome as he is. The whole thing has this great funky soul theme going and it's just dripping with camp. The intro to the album is so pitch perfect that it's I would have been content if the rest of the album was mediocre, but it's not.

Here is the clean version.

07: Massive Attack - Heligoland

mbhk_10of10_massive_heligoland.jpg

Why is this on the list?: Unlike just about every member of the music press, I liked Heligoland. It's Massive Attack doing what they do best, making albums that sound a little like their landmark album Mezzanine. And there isn't anything wrong with that, it's chill and awesome sounding music. If you like chill and awesome sounding music, you'll like this album.

06: Robyn - Body Talk

RobynBodyTalk.jpg

Why is this on the list? Hey, you guys like Pop...from Europe? No? Well I don't give a damn, Robyn actually deserves to be on this list. While the radio listening pubic was busy listening to Katy Perry and Ke$ha; Robyn put out 3 EPs and one album. The Body Talk series is a great series of fun to listen to and danceable pop songs. So even though I know there is little to no chance you'll actually listen to this album...actually I don't know were I was going with that.

05: The Chemical Brothers - Further

chemical_brothers_further_20100609.jpg

Why is this on the list? The Chemical Brothers have been making electronic music since the mid 90s and their 90's stuff is totally worth listening to if you haven't already. The quality of their last few albums is still up for debate, but Further is an excellent album. And Daft Punk only came out with an OST and LCD Soundsystem's was a disapointment, this is my favorite electronic album of the year.

04: Das Racist - Sit Down, Man/Shut Up, Dude

Das_Racist_Shut_Up_Dude-front-large.jpg

das-racist-sit-down-man.jpg

Why is this on the list? Remember when I said this list would have 11 albums? Yeah, well I lied. Das Racist released two albums...for free. I know, awesome right? Well, that's if you jumped on the deal when it came out...now you'll have to pay $0.50 per album. One buck for 37 songs, not that bad of a deal. 37 songs dealing with a crazy variety of themes and ideas...like a Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell and racial verity or something like that.

Oh, and a language warning on this one.

03: Girl Talk - All Day

Girl-Talk-All-Day-2010.jpg

Why is this on the list?: To put it lightly, Girl Talk is pretty much all music genres working in unison to create awesome dance music. There are a lot of people who hate mash-ups on principle, I tun a deaf ear to this people. All Day features some of the strangest musical combinations out there. Like it's opening which mixes War Pigs and Move Bi**h. Definitely one of the best party mixes out there right now. OH...and it's also free, you can download it form the label's site

Language warning here too.

02: Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Kanye-West-My-Beautiful-Dark-Twisted-Fantasy-Art-2-500x500-thumb-580x580-246873.jpg
Yeah, I know it's the alternative album art.

Why is this on the list?: Oh, Kanye...I can't make up my mind about you. Are you a musical genius or are you a functional retard? It's so hard to tell, but if this album is any indicator...I'd have to go with the former. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is pretty much Kanye's magnum opus, it's dark, dirty and beautiful. This is coming form someone who doesn't really like Kanye all that much. But there is just something that is unmistakeably brilliant about this album. If you haven't heard it yet, then you're missing out big time.

01: Titus Andronicus - The Monitor

titus.jpg

Why is this on the list?

From whence shall we expect the approach of danger? Shall some transatlantic giant step the earth and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe and Asia could not, by force, take a drink from the Ohio River or set a track on the Blue Ridge in the trial of a thousand years. If destruction be our lot, we ourselves must be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men, we will live forever, or die by suicide.

-Abraham Lincoln, address to the Young Men's Lyceum of Springfield, IL, January, 1838

Titus Andronicus' sophomore album would like to remind us that the Enemy is everywhere and that despite our best efforts...we're losers. I don't know how to quantify why this album is so appealing to me. It's lyrics are steeped in cynicism and Americana. I don't know enough about music to go in to the technical details behind their playing. The best way to describe them is that the create angsty indie rock anthems, but angst isn't the right word. There is a pretty good chance that you'll hate this album and I wouldn't blame you if you do, it's most definitely not for everyone. It was released back in March and for some reason I had a feeling that an album that could beat this one.

Honorable mention or crap that disappointed me:

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs (Would have been #12)
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach (Would have been #14)
M.I.A. - M A Y A
Vampire Weekend - Contra
!!! - Strange Weather, Isn't It?
65daysofstatic - We Were Exploding Anyway
Baths - Cerulean (#13)
LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening (You're ending with this album???? WHY!!!!)

Anyway I guess that's the list. Terrible, I know, but it's there none the less.

So yeah: Comments? Concerns? Death Threats? Please post below.

I like all this stuff. I would've put Plastic Beach in the top 10, and probably Kanye as number one.

I like the sleigh bells too xD. I listen to them to get pumped up in the morning

The Lady Killer and Mojo are the only albums that came out this year that I have listened to. Not enough good rock comes out anymore.

I liked Plastic Beach, but...I don't know when I first heard it I guess I was expecting something more on the lines of Demon Days or something. Even though it's a completely different album and great in it's own right. I also debated about putting Kanye at number one, he put out one amazing album.

Glad to hear that someone else likes Sleigh Bells, agreed it's a great way to get pumped up.

Agreed, it's been a really mediocre last few years for straight up rock.

I approve of this list, particularly Robyn (one of the most under-rated pop goddesses ever) Flying Lotus and Cee Lo Green. If I was about 6 months ago I'd have agreed with Eliza Doolittle but I'm finding she has massively grown off me (if that makes sense).

Its also nice to see some I've never heard before, in return for your consideration did you hear the Hurts album Happiness? Brilliant, I would seriously recommend it.

Oh wow, didn't think I would find someone who would agree with Robyn. I haven't listened to Hurts before, but I'll definitely check them out.

This is a great list - your number 11 is lol what? but the rest is right on. I thought I was the only one on here who listened to Robyn - very decent listening list you got there :)

Only album that I love that's not on your chart is Broken Bells? Not number 1, but definitely in my top ten

Yeah, it was a top 10 and then I remembered Massive Attack and I didn't want to cut any of the other albums. I've been meaning to listen to Broken Bells...just never got around to it.
