I am curious if anyone has used one. My current keyboard (arctosa) will be scrapped very soon here, for either a blackwidow or another. I don't need any led business, and would prefer a mechanical keyboard.

I like the 'laptop' shortcut keys, and the overall build quality it seems to have (haven't handled one in real life)

I am wondering if any of you have had any experience with one, I would appreciate the feedback immensely.

**Real quick, my rundown on the arctosa

*Pros
The software is a plus, easily reprogram keys
Can turn off the Windows button

*Cons
The audio control is a joke - more on this
The audio light is BRIGHT (even after some sharpie to it)
It flimsy.. not much more I can say about this.. its just flimsy
While I LOVE the black lettering on black, most of my friends do not
The 'standup' piece of plastic (used to keep keyboard at an angle) broke after I bumped it once
 
Alright, as no one had any information, I went ahead and bought it. Unfortunately my gf is making me keep it under the tree.. wrapped, until christmas.

I'm surprised Cut Chem!st didn't say anything about it. He has the keyboard. He loves it.
I'd like a nice review of it, too. Take some good pictures! ^_^
 
Hm, I would have, but I didn't even see this thread. Yeah, glad you went and bought it, great buy. Thread must have fell off the front page really fast for me not to see it.

It's a good keyboard, you have nothing to worry about.
 
I use the Razer Tarantula and it lacks backlit keys, the Blackwidow ultimate edition looks so much better than the standard I hope you for the Ultimate Edition!
 
I own a Razer Blackwidow and I tell you this, once you get one you will find out that you will no longer want to use Rubber Dome keyboards ever again. The tactile feedback and the click is pretty much magical and it really does help you type faster when it activates at only a half press, meaning you'll eventually only use minimal force which will help the switches last longer.
Another great feature is the macro system that it comes with ( I made a macro that clicks 1000 times a second which means that I'm the facebook fast click world champion. Yay.). There is also a not explaned gaming mode when you press the FN-F11 together which turns off your windows keys, pretty good. The main problem I have with it is that the lettering on the keys appears to be wearing off, they kind of jut out a little and you can feel the letters while you type. Your finger won't easily fall off the keys as they have quite a stiff texture that will stop key slipping that could be catastrophic.
The Razer Blackwidow is probably the cheapest and perhaps best of all the mechanical keyboards that you can buy, funnily enough the non-ultimate one comes with the backlight changing buttons. This is because you can change how bright the Razer Logo is, sweet.
On some pictures it shows that the ~ buton is huge and that the enter button is only half it's size. This is incorrect, it is a standard layout. Another thing I might add is that the keys are compact so it'll take about 30 mins to get used to them but from then on it's fine.
Make sure to have a cleaning cloth with you because the plastic of the keyboard is made of the worst substance ON EARTH. It might be super glossy that you can see yourself but fingerprints are like glue on it. It will look horrible if you get it full of fingerprints.
There is only one windows key on the left of the keyboard, the right windows key has been replaced by an FN key for media and keyboard functions. Pressing FN+Alt-GR Will allow you to enter in a macro on the fly. Then you press the FN+ALT-GR again and press the key you want to assign it to. Make sure to know this because if you leave it on and assign it to a key such as "d" then typing is going to start being really hard to do.

Alright guys

After a few weeks with the keyboard I have to say... WOW. Love the feedback I get from the keys, a much more enjoyable feeling that with my past non-mechanical keyboards. I have to say this is my fist mechanical keyboard for at least 15 years, the last when I was about 8 and not gaming.

I don't know how scientific those typing speed testing sites are, but my wpm went up 30 when I tested it a few days after using the Blackwidow compared to my Arctosa.

I love it. The macro keys are nice, at least the ones I can reach easily. The light up razer logo is cool, you can control how bright/if its on/pulsing). The volume and media controls are set up like laptops, with a function button the replaces the right start button. To be honest this very nice, as it allows the keyboard not bubble like most of the multimedia ones do.

As it is a mechanical keyboard, it is much louder than the laptop-type, so keep it in mind. While I am in my apartment, in a separate room than my girlfriend, she doesn't mind. However, if she is in the same room as me, she asks me to stop typing.

Pros
-Macro keys - easy to re-bind (which is what I do for various games)
-Macro Keys - east to reach (3 of them are super easy, other you need to get used to)
-Solid hardware - this keyboard weighs in at least two and a half pound. - It doesn't slid around. Frame doesn't bend while pushing on it (Arctosa at least)
-Feel - not sure how I can explain this - but I 'feel' more connected to my keyboard. More response...

Cons
-Keyclicks can be too loud if you have roommates
-The price - thankfully I got mine as a christmas present

If any of you are looking to go out and get a new keyboard in the near future, I would for sure suggest the Razer Blackwidow.
 
I went ahead and got it right after Christmas and I love it. The keys are quite loud though.

Maybe use your previous less loud keyboard for most things and just plug the Blackwidow in for gaming? Also did you get the Ultimate version or just the normal?
 
I've tried the keyboard out, and I definetly prefer the Black widow to any keyboard i've ever used. It responds much quicker, and has shiny lights.
