Well I've seen a couple of members when I offer "Anyone who wants to join eGO gets a free polycount item", say "Hey me me me!". Which looks ridiculous. Obviously if you're ALREADY a member you're not going to get an item and you are going to drive possible new members AWAY from eGO. So when somebody is trying to recruit please do not say "I will" if you're already a member, it's not aimed at you and you deciding to poke your nose in will seem disrespectful to the pubs and will hinder recruitment efforts.
This kind of thing is also seen in the DOD forums:

This was posted by euro a few days ago.

It went sideways real quick.

Now, I am bringing this up, because I noticed a trend here.

Take a look at some of the replies

You shouldn't be bribing people to join either.

Mature World Gaming Community.

If only. Also I think Jayflip has a point. We're supposed to want quality members, not looking for polycount items members. Giving stuff away isn't bad, but it can lead to poor quality members and we don't need any more of of those.

I have to agree with this as well. It's seems rather desperate does it not?

What would you like every to do? Agree with you? Post "read and understood"? I think discussing the validity of giving stuff away is fairly on topic. Also there's nothing wrong with large pink letters. Don't be hating. Good luck recruiting!

Is the topic not the bribing of people to join eGO? Also, it's not a criticism, it's a discussion of the matter. I personally feel that it's much better for this organization to appear as though it has humour than for it to look like it's so desperate that we literally need to give things away for people to join us. It just feels like paying people to be your friend to me. Sure, many quality members could be found by the offering of items but I believe those individuals could be found without it just by being a great organization.

I'm with Jordan on this. Not to knock on your recruiting efforts or methods, it just seems a bit shady to offer something to join my clan. If you offer someone a hat to join eGO and they have no idea whatsoever about us, about our core values and policies, this could lead to problems in the long run. The person could care less about eGO and just wants to get the free hat, and could go rogue and make eGO look bad in the process.

My ears were burning...did somebody say "troll"?

No, but seriously Euro, you're getting upset that people aren't staying "on topic"...if the topic is strictly "don't be saying 'me me me'" then you're just causing a double-post as you took what somebody else wrote and wrapped it up in a different package. You mentioned something else and people feel like talking about it. I agree that bribing seems a little underhanded and a lot desperate.

If we restricted responses to our posts this much, people would hardly comment on anything. If you put up screenshots of your dominations, do you yell at people for putting up screenshots of theirs, saying, "This isn't for all domination screenshots--it's a thread for you to put up screenshots of just when I dominated you or other people!"??

To your original post though--yeah, guys...please don't do this. Nobody besides you thinks it is funny...except little kids who haven't played TF2/DoD much...but even then CSS usually keeps to themselves.

Let me make this very clear for all of you!

Its that members items. So, if they want to give them away they can.

All I see is, "we shouldn't do this!" But, offer no solution in return.

A member is trying to recruit, and this is what happens.

Please, offer solutions to problems. Do not down another persons idea.

IF any of you have a problem with this, Come speak with me in vent.

Understood. Though just to clarify I wasn't in any way implying that Eurocracy should stop the practice of offering items. I was merely stating my personal opinion on the matter.

Understood as well, and I'm in the same boat with Jordan, I wasn't trying to rain on someone's parade, just offer a concern, especially since I was a former recruiter myself (I should have made than more clear on my response.)

If i offer my solutions i get yelled at. :(

still understood.

Whilst I criticized the methods, I did actually post solutions. I suggested using alternative ways of making eGO sound appealing to potential recruits, then I listed some possible reasons.

I don't post often, but I followed Euro's post and now I see this post and feel it's time to say something.
There is a misconception about who to recruit. For as long as I have been in eGO the object of recruiting was to recruit as many as possible into the =(e)= rank, its all about QUANTITY for that rank, bringing in as many as you can. The QUALITY part starts at the =(eG)= rank and continues even more to the =(eGO)= rank and into leadership. Yes a few bad apples may slip through and get promotions, but they eventually get weeded out.
Without bringing in as many as we can to the =(e)= rank we start to eventually have problems replacing all the admins that leave or have to take time off because of real life.
The other issue is that only recruiting quality members is a tricky thing. Why? Because everyone's opinion of a quality member can be very different and so fewer people are brought in. It isn't our job as regular members to decide who is a quality member, that is leaderships job. That is why they promote people to the higher ranks with =(eG)= being the tryouts to see if you really are EdgeGamers QUALITY and will be a good admin and being promoted to the =(eGO)= rank is leaderships' acknowledgment that yes you are a Quality member and a good admin.
Now this isn't to say some of you at the =(e)= and =(eG)= rank aren't quality members, but maybe leadership just hasn't seen this in you for whatever reason that may be.

So please stop saying we should only recruit quality members and just go recruit as many as you can and let leadership sort them out.

Duck makes an excellent post. This is exactly how JohnT said we should recruit.

As much as i love eGO, this is the thing i disagree most about.
It really should be the other way around.

Thanks for your post, Ice. I agree that each member should have their own way of recruiting, as long as the standard isn't breached by the recruitment process, whatever standard may apply. I've only been here almost two years, not quite as long as some of you, but I feel like I've gotten a feel for how things work.

As for the quantity v. quality argument, I can really see both sides of the issue, however, I will agree that the entire "quality recruits" message that has been spread about is a little overbearing. Like Duck asked, "What makes a good recruit?" The real test of that is what they do with admin ability, and it's a fine line between "is this recruit capable/mature enough to handle powers" and being totally stingy because, in your opinion, they aren't "admin material."

That's why I'm not an advisor, I guess - lol. I'd rather leave that call to the big guys at corporate TF2 Division HQ. ;)

BTW, I believe a big THANK-YOU is in order for our new advisors and their hard work to get this division back on its feet. So, thank you! :)

I don't rightly know how to find a "midway" or a solution at the moment. But read and understood(nice save Ice)!

The simple midway is as ice stated, recruit as you like with the methods you use. There should be no arguments about which is right or wrong, for it is all an opinion.

While I agree that there is no right or wrong I still feel like discussion should be allowed.
