Hello,

I got 2 monitors for my pc, one is also a TV and that monitor has a USB connection.

Im thinking about buying the WD 1tb external hard drive.

There are two connections on the HD, one for power, and one to a USB port.
I was wondering if i can connect that USB to my monitor, put movies on the HD, and watch movies from the HD on my TV monitor.

Is that posible?:)

This is the HD, its a dutch site, couldnt find it on an english one; http://www.yorcom.nl/artikel/EXHDDWDEL010/wd-elements-10tb-7200rpm-16mb-usb20-wdbaau0010hbk.html

And this is the monitor:
LG LCD M197WDP-PZ

EDIT: I just put an USB stick into the USB slot, and there is an USB option available. But i can only select Pictures and Music, not videos:S

Thanks,

~Bird.

If you have two monitors, and one is also a tv... does that imply they are BOTH hooked up to your computer, running duel monitors?

Cause that is how (to me) you worded your question..

(and if that's so..them.. umm...why do you need to use an external hard drive??)

Yes im running dual monitors.

And why i need a extern hard drive. Well first I need it to store all my videos, about 100GB at this moment.

And then i thought that it would be cool if i could plug in the HD into my TV, and watch videos from it. Without having my PC on.

Then i found out that there was indeed a USB plug in, I plugged in my USB stick and i only had the options Picutre en Music. So no video.

There's your answer.

Most televisions with USB slots available on the current market either use it specifically for factory resets and diagnostics or give you the ability to look at pictures and a select few allow you to listen to music (of course with file format restrictions on top of that).

My suggestion?

Keep your PC on, get a cheaper internal 1TB hard drive, and get yourself a TV tuner card (preferably with HDMI out on the card for the tv - which should have an HDMI in) for the PC with a remote. Microsoft has their Media Center software on Windows 7 (exception being 7 Home Basic) as well as Windows Vista (same deal, exception of Home Basic version).

You could always get an Apple TV or a similar self-contained Media Center unit but they cost significantly more than just doing what I suggested previously.
