Here, I'll throw up my nVidia chipset rant:
Reasons why you should not buy an nVidia chipset:
1. All current AMD Nforce boards are based on chipsets from 2007, 4 years ago! (
source). The 980a is just a rebrand of the 780a.
If you honestly think that technology has not advanced in 4 years, then you should just go buy yourself a Commodore64, and be happy.
2. nVidia chipsets consistently run hotter than their AMD counterparts. Being an older chip, it is based on an older process (pretty sure it is either 90 or 130nm, but i can't find a source), which in turn, leads to a larger die size. This creates more heat output. By comparison, 890FX is based on a 65nm process, and the die is considerably smaller.

3. In general, 980a boards overclock much worse than 890 or even 790 based boards. Comparitively, there are very few records made with 980a boards.
4. all of the 980a boards currently availible completely SUCK. The MSI one is ok, but the ASUS one is riddled with problems, such as north bridge overheating, and an unusually high DOA percentage.
Now, some might say "But i want SLI !!!1" well, to them I say:
SLI hack works for most people.
