  • Aiming for CY Q4 2011 release
  • Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together
  • Frostbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written
  • Lighting sounds neat; one "probe" contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level.
  • Level destruction is going to be "believable" but basically everything is destructible.
  • Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses.
  • AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets
  • No more "gliding" animations that look off, animation realism is a focus
  • Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism
  • Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats
  • Plan on better, more immediate post release content
  • More unlocks than BFBC2
  • Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having "pink rabbit hat(s)"
  • 4 classes
  • Will talk about squads "later"
  • Looking into a theater mode but can't talk about it
  • Will have co-op Single-Player
  • There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off
  • BF3's team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2
  • They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo.
  • -Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah - Iraqi Kurdistan.
  • "F**k" will be used often, so M rates for sure
  • Significant narrative that goes with the SP mode
  • More than one setting, you're not in the middle east for the whole game
  • PC version is lead version
  • Why 64 players for PC only? No complains from the console crowd.
  • No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed down, so does Dice really want to put their time to that or would it be better spent elsewhere?

Can. Not. Wait.

A little worried about the short paragraph on the commander...kinda sounds like thats getting axed. I loved playing commander in BF2. If you communicated over voice with your squad leaders you could really mess some stuff up.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! THE BEST POST EVER!!! +1

The part I love the most:

- PC version is lead version

OMG... I cant wait it to buy it on steam...!!!!

And the scans... are just AMAZING!

You could see the RIS version of the M4 and M16 even a M249 with it... AWESOME!!!

:w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t:

Long life to the Battlefield franchise!!! :thumbup1:

I'm only worried about two things with this...

1) The availability and capabilities of tools to help the servers with options such as killcam, hardcore, team balancing, etc.. at release.

2) Commander mode isn't looking too great at the moment. That was an amazing feature in BF2142 (my favorite BF series game) and it really could carry a team to victory even with sub-par players if the commander was good and could issue orders to his/her team in an efficient and appropriate manner. I don't think they'll reach the same kind of effect with it in this game should they do it, but I do want it in there for sure.

Other than those two things, I'll be online for this for sure and probably dedicating an entire week to finding every hiding spot in existence.

Too bad we'll still have to deal with players who don't understand the concept that the voice actors weren't held to eGO rules, according to the "M-rated" part. Otherwise, this sounds amazing. Hopefully even if the commander mode is weak they'll at least have a good spotting system, since it's supposed to be based more on BC2's Hardcore mode, where spotting is basically a way to get a few extra points when someone shoots down a helicopter :P

*drools*

Thank you for posting this. Interesting comments regarding the sound effects. If all of this pans out, it looks like they are sparing no expense.

Fingers crossed.

I think i might go with the cartman approach and freeze myself until this comes out

via twitter:

dolphin diving is out, period.

3d spotting is in.

There will be something else people will complain about that will be similar to dolphin diving.

...of course if Dice somehow (not holding breath) manages to not have something replace it...than boo-ya.
