Screen Resolution on Star Trek Online...

I tried making my resolution for the game larger, since it was sort of just like a box. When I did that, my monitor says, "Not compatible with this signal." and just sits that way when I try to play the game. How can I get it back to the regular resolution while this message pops up in a black screen while I play the game? I would really like some help!

Are you using VGA or DVI?

what size resolution is the monitor and is that the same as you are trying to go to
