I think anyone having =(eGO)=™ in thier name MUST have their aproval to use that name otherwise legal action could be brought against them,
Eire.32

Absolutely right. Some of you forget that with eGO being a trademarked entity, it is a little different than a gaming community on a tiny server run by kids.....it is administered and co-owned by a lawyer (JohnT) and eGO exists as an entity in law and subject to regulations, laws and penalties you haven't dreamed of.

For instance, if copyrighted music is played on "eGO Radio" (or even Ventrilo), the RIAA can not only fine the holders of the eGO tradmark (serious bucks), but also shut down eGO itself as a gaming internet presence.

Be very careful what you do in the name of the clan and clear it with council before you do anything.

...and even before you announce the idea on the forum, talk to council first and keep it to yourself until they make a ruling.

Once something is defined and placed under the precepts of law, they get extremely complicated.

I completely understand

Here is the thing, Shoutcast is provided by Nullsoft, Nullsoft is a parent company of AOL LLC. And AOL owns everything LOL winamps, compuserve, WB!!! lol if some copy right were to be violated, wouldn't they have already suffered tons of lawsuits? I mean they are aiding the cause by providing a program and a directory to other stations.

the mere idea that you were even propose that makes me ill at ease. according to this logic Ford motor company is liable for drunk drivers. This si the type of logic that gets bit torent and kazza in trouble in court even though they provide services which are in NO WAY against the law.

The main problem with this entire radio idea is that nobody is going to want to listen to 24 hour royalty free music - they want to listen to their copywrited music which cannot be broadcast. Perhaps instead you should keep the interview parts and make them availible to download.

The RIAA is nailing everybody they can. The only answer I can give you is that they haven't been targeted yet.

If you want more interesting info on how and who the RIAA attacks copyright violators, check out www.slashdot.com and do a search on RIAA.

Ok redshift i understand and i found a quick fix if we decide to do the radio thing then we just wont put eGO anywhere in it...

But also take into consideration if this thing is ok'ed its not like were going to be Stream casting/ broadcasting to the whole world i mean the only people that would have access to the radio would be EGO and or the people that play on our servers or what not but its too early to say. and i believe there is an option to make the radio server private/ public but even of it is public there are hundreds of thousands of E-radio servers over the whole world wide web that the chances of a problem arising from this are slim to none.

Plus there is an option that the Broadcaster can select which enables or disables the server to be viewed to the "WWW" if it is disabled no one will be able to connect unless the person that controls the server gives out the link to connect to that server

meh...
I don't really like this idea. If I want to listen to music while in-game I'll just turn on my stereo.

>_>

well it wouldn't only be for MUSIC it could be for Entertainment as well as Promoting eGO, it could be used for all sorts of stuff. and the best part about it is its TOTALLY FREE

I like your idea MacDj, but I am not so sure about streaming of licensed music. Surely we can broadcast only in servers, but who knows if a curious person find out we don't pay royalties for those titles? It would bring a lot of legal trouble for the clan.

well i feel you on that but its not like people that listen to the station download the songs they hear and burn them onto a cd and then sell them LOL.

Read this thread and you'll see MacDj, it's the law we have to follow. You don't even have to download to violate copyrights.

Ok but its not like were gonna be making PROFIT from playing the music and all that stuff. and another thing i dont why everybody's jumping to conclusions RIAA this RIAA that i mean DUDE seriously........ i think they would have better crap to do then trying to nail something like this if it ever happens. I think people are over reacting a little. It would be best if this post was closed.
