Can my 500W power supply handle this?

Today I obtained a couple SATA hard drives (40GB each) to try RAID0 with my mobo's built-in RAID controller. I got it all set up, but now I want to use my primary SATA drive (1TB) with the Windows 7 installation on the RAID drives.

I have a 500W power supply. Here's what's connected to it:

Three SATA hard drives: 2x 40GB, 1x 1TB
Four fans
One CD/DVD drive
And of course, my motherboard.

Will I run into any problems with this setup? Can I fry a hard drive or my motherboard if the power supply can't handle it? Or is the only thing that could be damaged the power supply?

Thanks. If you need any more information, I'd be happy to provide it.

TBH.. power supplies have protection on them so that if you do overload them they don't feed back into your components. Do you have any graphics cards that the PSU is supplying power to?.. How many power point plugs on the mother board?.. (I have 4)...

Oh, derp. Yes, it's connected to an EVGA GTX 460.

The power supply connects to the mobo in two places - one is a square, four-pin connector, and the other is the usual 24-pin ATX power connector (I think it has 24 pins).

TBH.. id say 500 is pushing it..
I ran a similar set up with 530 and ended up burning out the psu after about a year...i stepped up to 650 everything is fine now.

That depends solely on the model that you get.

OP, what are your full specs?

I dont run crap components :).. but even an antec 530 couldnt keep up with 4 HDD 1DVD R 1 4850HD ATI, 1 Zalman cooling unit, and 4 fans.. the bits he has are going to consume more than what he has on the 12v rails.. thats just my educated opinion.

Mind you there are always the occasional bad components... ever since those B rate capacitors slipped through a couple years ago... But hey.. that's what the warranty is for .. Right?

Antec what? Their Basiq line or whatever is total crap.

Sorry for the delay. Here are my full specs:

Antec 900 SE case (not that the case would affect anything :3)
Asus M4A87TD EVO mobo
AMD Phenom II Black Edition (3.4GHz quad-core) processor
EVGA GeForce GTX 460
4GB OCZ gold DDR3 RAM
Three SATA hard drives (one is WD Caviar Green, don't know the other two)
SATA Lightscribe disk drive

I think that's it...if there's anything else, please ask me.

I think Phobus is asking for the full specs of the PSU - Make, Model, +12v rails and amperage...

unless you are overclocking the snot out of your stuff, 500 is more than enough.

I guess if you run furmark+P95+write to all hardrives at one time, maybe you will be getting close to like 450w. Not like you would ever really do that though.

TL;DR: you are fine

@Ma$stermind: Oh. Well, I'm actually borrowing the PSU from a friend, so I don't really know its full specs. :/

@reflex99: Nope, I'm not overclocking. :) Thank you for your input. :)

With your setup, I'd recommend a 650W PSU or better. This, of course, assumes that your PSU is actually putting out what it says it is.

Corsair makes a nice PSU, if you're in the market.
