Is there any real advantage to doing this? I recently have bought a new computer with Radeon 5770 with the option to crossfire is it worth it?

If you have a motherboard that supports it and you can afford a second 5770, then yeah, it's worth it.

gives you roughly 80-90% more performance in games that support crossfire (almost all)

It's physically two video cards, and it doesn't relieve stress on the primary card. So it nearly doubles your frame rate depending on how well it scales.

Oh ok well that sounds good, I've grown fond of these AMD motherboards so I think I'll buy another 5770

While I'm sure you've already checked, it's good to make sure both your motherboard and PSU will support it without any problems. Just because a board has 2+ PCI-e x16 slots doesn't mean that they run at x16 in crossfire.

Even if the cards run at x8 - x8, it's not as if there is a
game out there that uses all of the x16 bandwidth.

... unless you're running benchmarks and such.

x8/x8 isn't really what I'm worried about. It's if the board would be x16/x1 or x4/x4.

Even then, it doesn't create much of a problem. The only time it does when it's two cards on one PCB. Usually.

ya basically the main reason to crossfire is if you don't want to upgrade SLIGHTLY by buying a new GPU, you can buy the same GPU you have and crossfire and get much more performance. the problem with it is eventually (could be years tho) they will both be old and need to be replaced.

im at the same point, i have a 5850, but instead of buying something like a 570 for instance, i'd just buy another 5850 and get a massive boost in performance instead of spending the same money if not more for just a little bit more performance, ya know

There is virtually no difference between x4, x8 and x16 unless you're using mega resolution, high end cards and a very demanding game.
