Well this is my first true from the ground up build, and this is what I came up with. Please give me any guidance and advice. Now I just have to wait for the government to get off their asses and get my check to me.

problems highlighted in red.

1. 3 dimms? on an AMD build? To run dual channel, you need to either use 2 or 4 dimms.

2. that board doesn't support SCSI >.>

3. This build would never need more than ~600w. Luckilly for you, that PSU probably cannot put out 600w before it blows up. Something like the Antec TruePower new 650w would be an excellent alternative.
 
Take out other ram and add this

It seems like you have a fairly big budget. Do you have a set budget?

And honestly, for $1,700, you can get a lot better.

3k is fine, but right now im waiting for VA to send me a check which could be a few more months. Throw together a parts list and let me see what you are think of. Thanks
 
Yea, I've been giving that some thought. If you really want the most muscle and you have deep pockets, you should be looking at an intel based i5 or i7 system.

If your on a budget and your looking for the best bang for the buck at less than $1.2 k you probably should be looking at AMD.

If I had 3k to spend on a toy, I would. Or would I?
Hmm me envisioning a crossfire system with triple 32" hi res monitors and a pair of 6970's
On a fast Quad cpu with a ton of memory. Something kinda like this..

The reality is, just about any quad processor that puts out 3 ghz will run anything you throw at it with a good video card, or better yet 2 of them.

Looks fine but..
I don't like the Rosewell case. You can get better at the same or cheaper price.
I would drop the SCSI. Not neccesary. especially with newer sata drives and SSD's.
I would do a raid setup with a couple of Sata drives before I would do a scsi.

I'd like a better quality PSU.


I know, nothing is sexy about power supplies. But get a Seasonic, Corsair, Antec, etc. you'll be glad you did. 600/800 watts will probably be ok if your not overclocking.

I like the build but don't skimp on the case/psu. With some careful shopping and rebates you can get better at same price.

Which is the better cpu for gaming Intel or AMD? If you had a $3000 budget for building your computer which would you go with and why? Toss me some models for comparison please.
