So I flew home from college early Friday morning for Easter break. I packed everything I was taking home in one duffel bag.

My clothes.

My laptop.

My PSP.

My notebooks/textbooks.

Everything that I need to function as a college student and prepare for my finals coming up this and next week.

I flew Delta (first mistake). Instead of what I normally do, which is take a bus to Midway in Chicago and then fly Southwest from Midway to Macarthur in New York, I flew Delta from South Bend to Detroit (shudder...) to LaGuardia in New York.

Apparently my duffel bag was too big to fit in the carry-on luggage compartment (even though it was the correct size), so they took it as "planeside check), gave it a pink tag and put it in the plane with the other planeside checked baggage, or so I thought.

I landed in Detroit at 9:30am and my connecting flight to LGA was at 10am. They were unloading all the planeside checked baggage and my bag wasn't in there. My entire life had disappeared in the matter of 90 minutes. Not good.

They wouldn't let me file a baggage claim at Detroit because it wasn't my final destination. Ok Delta. But even if they had let me, I had to book it across the airport to get to my connecting flight which had started boarding before I even landed.

I land in New York and still no baggage. So they didn't just route my baggage to LGA with other regularly checked baggage. I file a claim with Delta and they assure me they will find my bag. Fine.

3 hours later, when I'm at home, US Airways in Chicago calls for my dad.

They have my bag. US Airways. In Chicago. A different airline. In a different city. In the opposite direction I was traveling.

Ok, fine. The nice lady in Chicago is going to Fedex Priority overnight my bag to me and have it delivered by noon on Saturday. No worries.

Well, this story isn't over yet.

Noon Saturday rolls around. No delivery. I stop a Fedex truck on my street and ask if he has a delivery for my address. He tells me he was scheduled to deliver something but there were some late packages this morning.

Great.

So 30 minutes before the shipping station closes, I drive there and ask them where my package is. I explain the dire situation I'm in. They tell me they have been looking for my package all day. They tell me to wait in my car and the manager who is staying late to search will bring it out to me once they find it. I mean, they had scanned it in this morning and the tracking system said it was in the warehouse.

So an hour later she comes out with only the shipping label. No bag. No box.

The label had come detached from my bag.

They have no idea where my bag is. It could be in JFK Airport. It could be in Memphis. It might never have made it onto a truck in Chicago.

So, I have no laptop. No school books. Half my clothes are gone. And I have finals in a week.

Sad ginger is sad.

:O crap :(

Talk about a screwed up day :O Sorry to hear this man! I hope everything work out for the best and they return your stuff OK.

When I saw that you lost your bag on the airline...I frowned.

Now I'm crying along with you. Pretty crappy situation.

Wow that sucks! How can they even do that? You should ring up their headquarters and complain, to both companies!

Holy.......I don't even express my feeling about this for you can if the language rule. =(

I hope somehow someone finds it and gets it back to you.

I'm not sure if you want to take it there, I'm sure you have more dire concerns at the moment. However, without a doubt if this has any serious repercussions then you'll will gave a completely legitimate lawsuit available against Delta. Who knows, your suit may be able to put them under for good. Either way, my condolences on your grave situation.

No, apparently I still had the O'Hare tag from when I checked that duffel bag a few weeks ago when I flew US Air from Phoenix to O'Hare, so that's why the bag went to Chicago. I don't understand why they took it away from the plane that the owner of the bag was walking on, but hey, they did their job.

What I'm pissed about and am ready to inflict heinous and grievous bodily harm to the employees of Fedex about, is why did the packing/shipping label get cut off my bag and sent alone to the destination???

Goes toshow u if our airport system sucks how is our government not gonna suck.

Sorry to hear ginger hope something happens where ur not totally screwed

I deeply feel bad for you. Ive been in this situation before and lost my ipod & external hard drives, which sucked majorly.

I have faith it will all make its way back to you. Until then, check out this youtube video about a guy who lost his computer, not a laptop, but rather a Apple G4 desktop machine.

He got his desktop back from across the country, I have faith you'll find it.

Dude. Um...man I'm kinda at a loss for words right now. I got nothing. So here's an internet hug and a kiss on the digital forehead.

Seriously though. You hear all the time about worst case scenarios about lost luggage. I think that one kind of breaks all the rules. I seriously smell a lawsuit coming on with that.

Good luck and I'll put in a word with my good buddies upstairs to get it back to you.

Ok that is quite a depressing story and I have actually seen some similar stories posted on a site called www.Consumerist.com which is a blog...well I will let their "About statement" tell you:

http://consumerist.com/about-us/

The Consumerist empowers consumers by informing and entertaining them about the top consumer issues of the day. We are a leading online resource for consumer-driven advice about dealing with everything from non-existent customer service to onerous cell-phone contracts to ever-shrinking (and ever-more-expensive) grocery products. The Consumerist is published by Consumer Media LLC, a not-for-profit subsidiary of Consumers Union, and takes no outside advertising.
The Consumerist highlights the persistent, shameless gaffes of modern consumerism - and the latest scams, rip-offs, hot deals and freebies. We also encourage our readers to tell us about their everyday experiences with absurdities of consumer culture - and suggest ways for them to fight back.

So now my suggestion is this: Email the consumerist your story as you have told us and hopefully they will publish it and you can get Corporate involved. Good luck.

Sad to read that Ginger... sometimes we MUST carry the most important things in a backpack inside the plane... trust me! is sad when your stupid luggage is missing (for 2 or 3 days) and you have nothing to wear or yous pissed off because of your stuff is missing and you're in a foreign country -_-' (yeah... I got the "same" problem like 7 years ago, but in Europe), 3 days after this... I got a call from the airline "Sir your stuff is here, we are sending it to your hotel" (they just put it in a plane to Israel or something like that) anyway... since that day I'm a psycho in a plane -_- aka ALL you need to survive for a week inside my backpack, stupid airlines!

eventually Lost stuff gets liquidated and sold. there's lots of phonecalls to make, and phone tag, but keep trying. it will take patience. because things dont disappear. Keep in mind there's a HUGE volume of baggage each day, and people are busy, and don't like to be bothered with silly phonecalls.
Things CAN turn out well.. i've had eBay packages stuck in a distribution for a month... you just gotta light a fire under the right person.
.... also... watch Fight Club. People shouldn't define their identity by their posessions.

Ginger good luck and I hope you get your stuff back so you can study for finals!

Not much else to say but keep calling FedEx!
