So I flew home from college early Friday morning for Easter break. I packed everything I was taking home in one duffel bag.
My clothes.
My laptop.
My PSP.
My notebooks/textbooks.
Everything that I need to function as a college student and prepare for my finals coming up this and next week.
I flew Delta (first mistake). Instead of what I normally do, which is take a bus to Midway in Chicago and then fly Southwest from Midway to Macarthur in New York, I flew Delta from South Bend to Detroit (shudder...) to LaGuardia in New York.
Apparently my duffel bag was too big to fit in the carry-on luggage compartment (even though it was the correct size), so they took it as "planeside check), gave it a pink tag and put it in the plane with the other planeside checked baggage, or so I thought.
I landed in Detroit at 9:30am and my connecting flight to LGA was at 10am. They were unloading all the planeside checked baggage and my bag wasn't in there. My entire life had disappeared in the matter of 90 minutes. Not good.
They wouldn't let me file a baggage claim at Detroit because it wasn't my final destination. Ok Delta. But even if they had let me, I had to book it across the airport to get to my connecting flight which had started boarding before I even landed.
I land in New York and still no baggage. So they didn't just route my baggage to LGA with other regularly checked baggage. I file a claim with Delta and they assure me they will find my bag. Fine.
3 hours later, when I'm at home, US Airways in Chicago calls for my dad.
They have my bag. US Airways. In Chicago. A different airline. In a different city. In the opposite direction I was traveling.
Ok, fine. The nice lady in Chicago is going to Fedex Priority overnight my bag to me and have it delivered by noon on Saturday. No worries.
Well, this story isn't over yet.
Noon Saturday rolls around. No delivery. I stop a Fedex truck on my street and ask if he has a delivery for my address. He tells me he was scheduled to deliver something but there were some late packages this morning.
Great.
So 30 minutes before the shipping station closes, I drive there and ask them where my package is. I explain the dire situation I'm in. They tell me they have been looking for my package all day. They tell me to wait in my car and the manager who is staying late to search will bring it out to me once they find it. I mean, they had scanned it in this morning and the tracking system said it was in the warehouse.
So an hour later she comes out with only the shipping label. No bag. No box.
The label had come detached from my bag.
They have no idea where my bag is. It could be in JFK Airport. It could be in Memphis. It might never have made it onto a truck in Chicago.
So, I have no laptop. No school books. Half my clothes are gone. And I have finals in a week.
Sad ginger is sad.
