Why this Lag ?

Ok first let me say that this lag is realy bringing my game down because i dont know were the enemy is before the kill me, i have a Duel Core with 2GB of RAM plus watercooling, i also have the fastest internet connection 20MB, im not sure if its my computer, my wireless internet or the servers (and i know its not the servers),
So what could this be, also i do have 2 other computers and a 360 normally on the internet so i think that might be it :S
So saying this isent anything to do with the other 2 computers and 360 what could it be (i am running with Vista)

I'm getting very high FPS (300), so its not that, the lag is like, i spot an enemy start shooting and die but it still shows im alive and shooting at him, the game also somtimes jumps, like when we all run out of spawn the players will stop but when there legs still runing and then suddenly they warp up about 20 meters .... ?

sounds kinda like packet loss, do you know what rates you are using? You might just need to change your rates.

Okay, go to console, type in rate and see what's the default. If it's under 25000, set it to 25000 to smooth out your connection.

Also try cl_smooth 0 and mat_antialias 0 and cl_muzzleflash 3rd 0. See if it help.

If it doesn't help, it might be the server that's lagging and the distance between your computer and the server is too great. Nothing you can do there.

yeah xfire tends to do that to some and not to others, just probably a bug or conflicting issue

Selmuir, you are more lucky then me, coz the fastest connection that are offered here at my place just only 1MB!! And everytimes I play DoD with y'all, my ping usually around 350-450 even after I turn off everything from torrent to antivirus. Sigh...

well i hope your not turning off antivirus while connected to the internet ever and that was only some sort of test.

Also, when people talk about speed they are talking about bandwidth - when you talk about ping you are talking about latency which not not the same thing.

Also, having a download speed of 1MB is pretty sweet its more than I get at my home or school. I traditionally get 2-5 Mb which is less than 1MB by a fair ammount.

BTW, how does 2 or 5 become smaller then 1? Well..I just confuse, that's all.

He probably means megabits versus megabytes.

1 byte = 8 bits

Hence one MB (megabyte) per second is far faster than 4 Mb (megabits) per second.

Converted into bits it would be 8 Mbits vs 4 Mbits
