Play on deathmatch servers and try each gun for a while to learn how it plays. some guns are better than others depending on the map you play and your play style. I tend to use SMGs on office becuase of the close quarters and ARs on Dust2 and HS due to the open area.

If you want to just learn a few guns, learn the deagle, M4 and Ak47.

First off, take your time and AIM! Play jail so you can learn the basics of how some of the guns work. Their range, power, accuracy ect. After jail, move on to office or dust for a fun experience!

Not necessarily, yea they get good playing by themselves but if people give them pointers then they can practice those as they play to get even better. Even some type of guidance is better than none at all.
