Well..we had a "huge" discussion about this during the beta , and a few suggested to post this here , so , here it is.

I love DOD : S and all , but , it could be a lot more than it is. I always wanted to drive up on a beach in a landing craft , or jump out of a plane as a paratrooper , and I finally decided that I will try to assemble a team and create a "mod" for the source engine. Normandy : Source.

The reason I decided to start with just the engine ( core of Hl2 maybe) and not DoD:s is because DoD has a lot of small errors and bugs , and , well , I don't want that in here :D.

My idea is large. I want to only have 5 large , interactive ,and fun maps. Maybe more.

The first. D-Day. Omaha Beach. The Assault Boats will be spawn points and will be on a loop. They drive up , land close to shore , and then they leave. The german defenders will have bunkers and so on. The allies will have pole charges and bangalore torpedoes , more elaborating on this in classes.

The second , and last Idea I have right now for a map , is a paratrooper landing behind Utah beach or around there. The US. Will spawn on a plane ,and , well , parachute out of it. The german defenders will try to take out the paras.

Thats all i have for not, with mapping.

Classes will be new. I plan on having the basic classes that can choose partial load out. Like , for instance, " a garand or carbine" , or " a bayonet or butt smack".

Also , there will be some "fun" classes. Like a medic. There will also be a simple organ system. If you're shot in the head , heart , or lungs , you will die. If you're shot in the stomach , hope a medic is near you. If you're shot in the leg or arm , you'll slowly bleed. Leg--Slower Arm--Less accurate. You can bandage yourself in the arm , or leg to stop bleeding , but the problems stay. The stomach , you can bandage yourself , so it stops bleeding a little but ,but , you're still on the ground screaming for a medic :D.

The medic will work in way of this :

Medic gives you morphine , removes shrapnel , applies gauze , ect , and, you're "healed". You will have something like 30 seconds of blurr and slowness before you are fully active again.

I hope to slow the game play down a little bit , and allow for more teamwork.

I think a lot of valves games could have been great , but they decided to go the Quantity route , not Quality.

There are my ideas for now , and I am looking for team members of all kinds.

We Need : Modelers , Animators , Programmers , Mappers , Sound engineers ,and more!

Repeat :

We Need : Modelers , Animators , Programmers , Mappers , Sound engineers ,and more!

Thanks for looking and I look forward to hear what you guys have to say.

Regards,

I really like this idea! Good luck guys. If needed, I could join, but don't really have a good feel for valves engine, so I am not familiar with it's modding abilities. I could learn, though...

Be careful, my friend, this is a large assignment. Set due dates, and accomplish them. Keep your team active, and write in somethign like Notepad your plans. I've lost many good mods, and seen many die, I do not want this one to fail.

Although an interesting and clearly ambitious idea, you do realize that projects like this often take years? And with the level of detail you seem to be interested in, you would be needing folks that are on the borderline of being professionals in their fields (if not getting actual professionals).

Not only that, but you need an effective way of communicating and working as a team, and getting the project going. Also exceptionally difficult. Most mods start as great ideas, but rarely see the light of day.

I wish you the best of luck, really... but know what you're getting into. Do you have any programming skills? Understand map making? Sound? Etc?

I don't mean to sound negative here, but at 13, many kids have grand ideas (trust me... you may not like to hear this, but I teach over 100 of you fella's a day) without the means, money, time, or even the long term dedication, to get it done.

Thanks for the Support , Frankoman.

Oddly enough , I'm learning more about the source engine too , reading all I can before I actually commit myself to a team.

So , in a way , this is still in the pre-team planning stages.

Once a team actually does come , prudent with getting content , I shall be. I too have seen mods that were disorganized and they ..well..failed.

Always looking for ideas , guys!

Sound like a good idea, looking forward to it

But good luck i guess

the last mod i was excited about was 'No More Room in Hell', it was a zombie mod for HL2 that was almost like Left 4 Dead but less--er, too bad its still in development for like 3-4 years i think

Sorry to Spetz , we posted at the same time and I missed you.

14 in april ,yes , young. I've been loving computers since I was 8. I build a computer and can fix just about any problem. I've been working with 3D modeling for the last 2 years , maybe a little less. I've also been fiddeling with other parts of game design and mod making , things like texturing and animation , and , yes , I do understand the source engine pretty well ,and , I'm learning more about it every day. Ambitious , yes , but , I jump into nothing before I know at least a lot about it.

Sound engineering is my weekest point , and , a lot of the other stuff I will be able to contribute to ( execpt hard core programming) , sounds I will not be able to. Digitally made sounds , nor do I have the supplies to make real sounds from real weapons. Some may. This is where we may have to "borrow" parts from other games , but , this is a mod , so , no commercial releases here.

In most ways , I am prepared , in some , I will need some help.

Of course , there will be cuts , but , right now , I'm just laying out ideas. Again , this is in the prep/idea phase , far before I actually start any work on it. It will take a while , but , some day , I do hope to achieve this mod 's goal.

Thanks to all who commented , and , again , sorry to spetz , I didn't see your post.

Thanks , Corp.

And , to Felon , I was actually watching No More Room in hell , for a while , but , I kinda gave up and went with zombie panic source. I do hope Left 4 Dead is actually fairly good , hopefully better quality than a lot of valves new-er games.

Regards ,

-Joe
