I'm going to be getting a largish sum of money and will be upgrading my pc, the CPU In specific.

What I want to know is if its worth sticking with my current motherboard and getting the cpu or if I should get a newer one and along with new ram and cpu(or something like that)

My spec's are:
MOBO: asus M2A-VM
Ram: 3GB DDR2
GFX: Card: AMD HD 5770
PSU: 300W
HDD: 1.5TB WD caviar green
CPU: AMD athlon II X2 240 @ 2.8Ghz

huh?
I'm perfectly happy with the 5770, but I want to upgrade the CPU and I'm not sure if I should stick with my current MOBO or not.

As for my budget I'll be in the range of $200-$350 NZD.

well for taht budget i'd say go AMD since amd is on the cheaper side. X6 1055T+ASUS M4A89TD PRO(for future xfire with the 5770)+G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600= about 350+ US Dollars since idk the prices for parts in new zealand.

theres always a cheaper option but i gave you what i could at ur highest price point.

Well, my father just happened to order one too many AMD Phenom II X4 840's, so I will probably be replacing my current cpu with that, thanks for the help.
