Free to play?! What happened while I was gone?!

I leave for ONE week on vacation away from home and the Internet, and I come back to find that Team Fortress 2 is now FREE TO PLAY?! What the heck happened?

To give this thread an actual purpose, I must ask, how has it been? Have all of the new F2P people ruined the game? This makes me really thankful for eGO, but are all my favorite non-clan specific servers now unplayable? And what are some of the new items like?

Looks like I need to get busy on making up some ground...

I should perhaps change my statement in the OP to MOST free players. You know, the stereotypes of "lol hax noob" and so-forth.

Glad to hear that you're enjoying it however! F2P is definitely a double-edged sword. You get the best of players, but you also can get the worst...

The game is the same as it was before, though much more lively and the servers have been a lot more full. I got a free hat out of it, and it's easier for me to get a few extra kills when in game for now

I agree so far even though the hat is ugly.

It was pretty stellar. A week at the beach will do wonders for a person.

It's definitely good to see full servers. We're lucky at eGO that if we DO get some cheaters/greifers/all-around-bad-people, we have lots of admins on to remedy the situation.

And I agree with some of the above posts: yay, free hat! Boo, it's ugly as sin.

I was in a match today where there was a spectator who, for the life of him, could not figure out how to join a team. We kept saying, "press '.'", "click on the door", etc., but his response to everything was that he couldn't figure it out. Then he tried to use his internal mic without headphones. Terrible feedback. When he figured that out, he just kept asking how to join a team and swore into the mic when he couldn't figure it out.

Some of these new F2P people are cool, but others...holy cow.

personally i had the game since it game out and i think its gone significantly down hill. hence why its f2p
