Is S.T.A.L.K.E.R a good series to buy?

I was looking through games for $20 and i found S.T.A.L.K.E.R:Clear Sky and
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat for about $25 and it looks alot like fallout (my fav game series) and i was wondering if it was a good game so please if you see this post please and give an opinion yes no mabey. and does anybody no a good coop game for $20 and if so want to do a play through?

Yes, its a very good series. The only bad thing about it is how badly its optimized. CoP is the best optimized game in the series, and I have a fix for SoC. CS is just bad though.

stalker is similar to fallout in many ways. both are post-apocalyptic environments, both are shooters, and both have a need for looting.

STALKER has more linear gameplay than fallout, but is much more atmospheric. STALKER also has more of a survival element to it unless you play fallout in hardcore mode.

I love both games but I prefer STALKER over fallout any day. I believe STALKER has a stronger modding community (a good chunk of it in Russia, though). Basically for me, the excellent graphical quality of STALKER puts it over fallout. The better your graphics card, the more you will enjoy STALKER.

its only poorly optimized for a handful of Nvidia GTX2xx series cards. People often claim it is optimized badly, when its just that the engine is too complex for their GPU and hardware.

I would also highly recommend the mod nik mentioned. It makes the game much more enjoyable and fixes numerous bugs.

If memory serves me correctly, the game was a little buggy, but fun to play. It's kind of like a harder and more serious version of Fallout 3. I'd avoid Clear Sky though, it's the weakest of the trilogy.

Yea, it's a good game, not the prettiest of games and not perfect but its gameplay really is what makes it shine. If you like Survival, first person shooting, looting and exploring you can't go wrong. It really is similar to fallout except you dont lvl up.

There isn't Co-op. Their explanation is:

"A cooperative mode is impossible, since Life Simulation would be different at each computer," it stated. "Synchronizing it would be practically not doable."

Clear Sky isn't a bad game, but many do believe it's the weakest of the series. But it's still a good game and worth playing if you're a fan of the series.

Like the others, I highly recommend looking into some mods. There's a fantastic modding community behind this franchise and they can definitely increase the replay value.

SoC is my favorite, followed by Clear Sky, then CoP. CS may be the weakest of the series in many ways, however I really enjoyed the CS experience over CoP. CoP sets you on a more linear path than the others, but that's not a bad thing at all. STALKER is a sandbox game with a main story, as well as various factions you can join creating a ton of side quests. The day/night changes, as well as the dynamic weather effects create a fantastic post apocalyptic simulation experience.

most people dislike clear sky and the entire series, really, because their computer hardware is underpowered and cannot run the game. It really is too bad co-op is not an option, but the single player makes up for that.

yes I have been playing Stalker 1 since January 2011, there is no other FPS like it on the market. Buy for sure and make sure to download the STALKER Complete 2009 mod or LURK mod before getting started

you will need one of those to make the game more up to date with the current standards

Clear Sky has a good story, its just very buggy.

i love SoC. i much prefer stalker over fallout any day as well. in fact i still have to finish playing fallout nv, but ima have to get a new dvd player before i can do anything :S

this is what i enjoyed about it most. you actually had to consider, oh crud do i have enough ammo, meds, etc to go in and challenge this camp? that type of thing.
you can't just breeze through the game and blast everything. you will be loading many times too because of it
