I've learned thoughout my time as being an admin of eGO that warning for every single cuss word starts to make eGO look bad in the light of the gaming community world.
If the word they swear with isn't very vulgar (words that you could typically find within PG-13 stuff) I tend to take it lightly and send a simple psay to allow them to know to keep it clean. When the words get more vulgar though (such as the F word, or in this case the word "bitching") I send a simple 'mind the language' warning through all chat so it can be dealt with and the game moves on with no problem.
Of course, if the player decides to make it a problem, such as continuing to swear lightly, I tend to send one or two more reminders in psays so they get the hint, and the game isn't disrupted. Also encouraging them to use admin chat helps keep the main chat clean of arguments.
When someone uses curse words in more disrespectful ways, the same thing applies. A simple warning over all chat about language and respect will do and then drop it (unless they continue the problem).
As for Ventrillo, I personally don't care about swearing in there. I've heard people from non-members all the way up to DLs use some pretty foul language (outside and inside R rated rooms). While most people get away with this, I've seen others get banned with no warning (although, there could be other factors involved I didn't know about).
All in all, just be lenient as Ric said with words. If it's not disrupting the server or Vent channel, then don't make it into a major issue. Be calm, curteous, and kind - then you'll see how easily problems get solved.
As a final word, to our good little =(e)='s... don't jump on pubs for swearing. They may not be used to eGO's rules, so give them a chance. It passes as completely rude when someone swears after just joining the server for the first time, and having about 6 e members jumping on them for it. As always stated before - Let the admins handle it.
Thanks for the post Artimus.
