Rumor is pretty much confirmed: Windows 8 will play Xbox 360 games. Good or Bad?

I like this idea as long they wont make us pay to play online

It's microsoft they're gonna make us pay. They've been in the console business for so long that they have forgotten that as PC gamers we will reject the idea of paying for online gaming.

As long as windows 8 comes with the ability to run it with the original windows desktop/taskbar/start menu I dont care but theres no way im getting if im forced to use that scrolling piece of junk default gui that it has. I mean really?? A touchscreen gui for the computer? Most people dont have touchscreen monitors. This is juat a table or phone port to the computer. Honestly I think this new gui looks really really stupid and dont see the point in updating from 7 to 8 for a clunky new gui that cant be turned off or reverted back to the original windows gui.

Luckily, in the video I saw, they had a section that acted like regular Windows 7, so upgrading to Windows 8 will be pretty much pointless, but if you do, at least it will be usable.

you sir have posted an arguement that cannot be matched. for this i salute you.

I'm sure it can be. Although I do have a tendency to explain every single point I make further than most other people as a way of stating my opinion.
And besides, I'm pretty sure that I was arguing for the nonexistent third side of the argument that is "potentially both or either one."

I say it can go both ways.

Bad: Wouldn't you need a good computer to play a xbox game?
Good: It would be alot of fun to play with friends who have a xbox and not a gaming computer.

I think you somewhat answered your own question. They'll probably make you buy the expensive adapter to connect (kinect :P) the controller to the computer.

wait, what? O_o I use a wired 360 controller and my pc accepts it on a multitude of games (for example: tf2, dod, pretty much all valve games). Anyways, im kind of meh on the whole thing. I dont really care about playing my 360 games on my pc because well... I have a 360 lol. Plus if 360 gamers wont be able to interact with pc gamers then there is less reason for me to care :P

I could see this being problems for Steam, unless MS and Valve partnered up (which I hope won't happen). Developers look and see, hey, now we don't have to make both a PC version for Steam and 360 Version for Consoles, lets just make a 360 Version!

Although, lets look at something else here, Valve may already be moving to counter them. Small amounts of Steam compatibility came with the PS3 Version of Portal 2 for the PS3, and I remember reading or hearing somewhere that PSN would be replaced by Steam in the next gen Sony console (don't know how true that is, but I think I remember reading it somewhere reputable). So, what if then every PlayStation game could also be played on Steam because of this event to keep both Sony and Valve competitive with Microsoft? Then PC Players are the real winners, we get Steam, we get PlayStation exclusives, and we get XBox exclusives. Win

I don't know if thats how it would pan out, but I wouldn't be hugely surprised if it did do that, since Sony and Steam would have to do something to keep a competitive edge.

EDIT: Also, Steam/PS3 players wouldn't need Windows 8, Windows Vista or 7 would do ;)

Don't know about XP though

Where's the source? I looked it up and just found a few text articles with nothing backing them.

I don't believe microsoft would do that, they want to sell consoles. And it would require the older 360 games to be compatible with the kb+m control scheme. You say the rumor is confirmed but I don't see anywhere confirming it.

You're the second person to say something along those lines. Makes me wonder what I did wrong, my computer won't do that.

Nintendo's Wii U is looking more and more appealing with each day I see
updates about it.

I don't see why you guys gotta be all worst case scenario. This just means that Microsoft is now releasing all their new games (and first party games, because obviously this service will debut with patches applied to Halo 3, reach, etc) on both systems. Meaning they have to step up the quality of games to meet the expectations of the PC gamer, whom have always and always will be quite anal when it comes to games.

Out of the gate I expect graphics card issues, as there are with many emulators.

Also, to those people that say you'd need a good computer. You're quite wrong. The system specs on an Xbox 360 are very low compared to modern computers.

As someone who has windows 8, I can all but confirm, based upon the code I have read that this is true. These spell dark days ahead for gaming.

I will be happy to discuss more in private, as I cannot say more publicly.

its still meh to me. dont really care. just means more games to for me. dont see why people complaining. there are games that just cant beat a good old keyboard and mouse and also vice versa for the controller.

Its no secret that Win 8 has been leaked since march and has been getting steady updates. I think its an intentional leak like the Vista leaks.

Rukus, this is true. I just don't like going into details on a product that's not even gone into public beta yet. Just a personal preference.
