This is my first time playing LoL and I'd thought I'd ask you guys for some newbie tips and helpful hints, and help on picking a champion, since I've never played LoL before. ;)

Well if you need help with finding a build with a charachter look at the sticky if you need help picking a charachter well, thats up to you to decide.

Each character does something different, I assume? And there's sooo many of them from what I've seen. Which of the champions would be good for someone who likes staying back from the battle, but helps from the long range?

If you want a support/mage character that does this, Lux. As for attack damage, Kog'Maw or Caitlyn. Brand and Orianna have rather large range for nukers.

Use the top rated guides on www.leaguecraft.com to know what items are considered the best on your characters until you get familiar and confident enough with the game to build characters yourself.

Ahh. Thanks for the help Carmine. I'll surely read that in a minute or two here. :)

other sites for builds/guides:

mobafire.com and solomid.net

I use mobafire. Also you said stays back and ranged attacks, so maybe ashe. She is cheap to buy and she is a ranger so maybe that would be good for you. Not too hard to play either.

As many as you want, but only one per game. Also learn to last hit minions. When you deal the last damage to a minion, you get extra gold to buy stuff in every game.

I would stay away from mobafire, the guides on it tend to not be as high quality as leaguecraft ones.

Do you have to purchase certain champions to use them in game, or will you unlock more as you level up?

You have to purchase them and i get money for just getting in a game and playing, but if u need help in-game or u have more question i will be happy to teach you what i know about the game and how you should play it.

Stay away from sites like Leaguecraft and Mobafire. Its better to learn on your own then to have a list that you need to look at.

For you preference, I would go with Ashe, Tristana (build DPS), or Kog'Maw.

Right now, I'm going with Ashe, since I prefer to stay back a bit and fight. I would've won my 2nd match, but we had two people quit out on us. =/

That's LoL for you. If people cry about others/how op champs are, chances are they're going to leave.

Best thing to do is to report those players can keep playing until your Level 30 ELO 2500+!

Leaguecraft is fine while you are still learning the flow of the game and familiarizing yourself with all the champions and what they do. It is better than taking random items or the in game recommended builds.
