Locked 6950 overclocking.

Ok, so recently I got a new rig. My graphics card I purchased is an HIS IceQ X Turbo 6950 2GB stock speeds of 840/1280 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161372

I was just curious as to what other people who have this card have been able to overclock their card to and keeping it stable. So far I've been able to do 900/1325 using CCC. Which is the max CCC can do. I downloaded Sapphire Trixx since I've heard many good things about it, and it's capable of pushing it farther than I want to.

This card has been playing every game I throw at it (Highest settings @ 1920x1080) with 60 fps being the minimum with stock speeds. So it's not that I need to OC, but I want to. For fun (:

So my two questions-
What have you been able to overclock your 6950 to?
Overclocking at said speeds, using what program?

Well I was able to OC to 910/1400 While maintaining 33c idle and about 50c under load depending on the game.

I could get about 930ish out of my 6950 before it gets too hot. Probably could bench like 950, 1000 would probably require better cooling.

I haven't worked the memory at all since it doesn't help compute applications

I have 6970, OC edition, 900mhz Core clock 1400mhz memory clock. Im using MSI afterburner for my monitoring. No need to OC it because its the OC edition for mines hehe

I snooped around and people have been able to get about 950/1400-1450 max with about ~1.2v for the voltage depending on their card. Some have bragged of getting up to 1000/1500. But that sounds like you're pushing it too far. I'm sitting on 930/1450 thought I'd bump it up. Compared to 910/1400, it's not THAT much better. But it's an improvement over the stock 840/1280.

Supposedly a locked 6950 that is overclocked can perform just short of an avg 6970. A unlocked 6950 to 6970 that is overclocked can perform just above a 6970. I think it has to do with power connections. Two 6pins for a 6950 and one 6 and 8pin for a 6970.

Still using Sapphire TRIXX. Is MSI afterburner any better? Does it matter any? XD

Trixxx vs AB doesn't really matter, pretty much the same program with different skins.

I prefer AB, since it also has a monitoring program, and I think it looks cleaner

I can monitor my temps ingame using MSI afterburner.

I monitor the Celcius, usage, fanspeed, and more if I like.

Not too worried about monitoring my temps too much. Trixx has a fan control setting so you can set increments of how fast you want the fan to spin depending on the temperature of the card.

Since it's a line graph, according to the above picture, if it's 45c it should be about 55% fan speed.

I run mine 24/7 at 960/1300/1.3v with shaders unlocked. Unfortunately, either I got a poor chip or I damaged the memory when I tried a full unlock (which slightly increases memory voltage), as my memory isn't stable clocked past that. Luckily memory speed doesn't make much of a difference in most applications.

As for the voltage, I'm not really too worried. That's why I got an XFX - so I'm still covered in case the worst happens. I have to keep the fan on a very aggressive curve, though, to maintain temps. Thankfully I don't have to listen to the noise since I keep the computer in a separate server room.

I only wish I picked up another card when they still had dual bioses. I suppose I'll have to run this card on the stock bios if I decide to go crossfire in the future.
