It's all in the title. I direct your attention to the post about the patch notes. The first few notes are all about the Free to Play setup. If you have any questions, hit me up.

Aww, you beat me to it. :P

Now I'm going to give this game a try. Didn't feel like paying money for it.

well... i actually got spanked. I placed it in EVERY forum... hahahahaha.

But ya, play. And if you want ANNNYY help learning the game, let me know. I've played way too much, and can assist you in getting past the learning curve.

and don't forget people to add your HoN account name to the IGN list in the HoN forums so we can stay in contact in game

Weird thing going on right now; I'm not able to create an account on the website. Everytime I get to the Create_Account2 part of the url and click on 'Create Account' it keeps bringing me back. :/

hmm. that's weird. it could just be that their website is gettin hit hard w/new account creations. the only other way i would know of to create an account would be to download the game from the main heroesofnewerth.com website. it's on the top left section of the site. then after installing the game, one of the options when you open it is create account. try that

First impressions: it has a lot of neat things LoL doesn't (voice chat, lane talk, stuff like that), but at the same time is inferior to LoL in some manners (IMO).

For instance, I absolutely despise the UI, its so un-intuitive and doesn't help you at all try to understand how to use it. They keyboard layout is also very strange, I frequently find my fingers tripping over themselves to hit keys that I wouldn't normally hit, like holding C to follow your hero instead of spacebar. Although I can probably change those somewhere so once I do that the problem will be gone. Also, its very very easy to lose both your champion and your cursor in a fight and have no idea whats happening.

A couple times I've been watching another lane to see if they need support or to use my ult to help them, and I've been killed without any idea that the enemy had come in range of me, much less started attacking.

Another down side I see is that in every game I've played so far there has been one champion who becomes almost completely impossible to kill, and can two hit most players on our team. At least in LoL when there is a fed enemy and you focus them they die, here we can't seem to pull that off due to all the escape abilities heroes have.

On the plus side I like the different tactical options that come in this map that aren't available in LoL, the graphics are much improved, and there is a decent voice chat system.

At the moment for me the negatives outweigh the positives, but we'll see if that changes over the next day or two as I get used to the game.

Well, this is a lot for a first impression, lol. Here's the thing, there are a lot more things to think of when it comes to strategy then with LoL. For example, you can DENY your own creeps. If you attack one of your own creeps when it's at low health, you can kill it which gives the enemy heroes significantly less heroes exp, and keeps them from getting gold for it. And that's just one thing.

I already commented on the UI in your other post, but a lot of the issues you were talking about are things that come from experience. the player getting so big it's impossible to kill is actually not always the case. There are a class of heroes known as "carries." When they're picked, their sole purpose is to try and get the best items it can, stay alive, and then destroy face late in the game. With the proper combination of heroes and items, any carry can be stopped. But part of the reason HoN did this (and DotA before it) is to ensure that what you do in the early parts of the game effects the later part of the game. So you don't get a "get out of jail free card" when you and your team didn't start too well. But like i said, it comes with practice. If you want ANY in game help, i'd be down to play a game and explain some stuff to you.

So I played it most of the day, and I've decided to uninstall. Thanks for bringing it to my attention that it was free, but I can't say I've had any fun at all playing today. The game is just too sloppy for my tastes, its extremely difficult for me to tell whats happening, the graphics are nice but IMO they really detract from the game itself, I wish they had taken a graphic style more closely resembling League where it is very easy and obvious to tell exactly what is happening at any given time. It just makes me sad when I see so many things that could be changed about the game to make it more user friendly and a bit easier to understand without actually detracting from the game itself.

Anyway, thanks again but I'm going back to League.

sad to hear that man. but hey, enjoy LoL. And if you ever decide to play again, hit me up. I still think you should at least try gaming w/the eGO people next Saturday, but it's cool if you don't.

and johnny flame, did you purposefully copy kevimaster? so you're not playing either? if not, then again, sad to see you leave HoN, but enjoy LoL

After a couple games, I already like the style and feel of HoN over LoL, big time. Getting used to the shopping looks like it make take some time though, a little clunky. I'm sold nonetheless.

cool beans man. If you want any help getting used to it, or some strategy advice, feel free to hit me up on the forum or steam and I can work with you on the game. And make sure to check out the weekly game thread. First weekly game starts on Saturday 8/6/11 at 12pm PST, 3pm EST

I gave HoN a try, but I don't think I would be used to a game like that. It was a fun 1 2/3 matches, but I uninstalled. Have fun at your future events tough Arab!

Ya I'm really not liking the new patch, ever since 2.0 it's just been going down hill.... The reason why I played HoN and not LoL was because it was way more competitive and balanced since you had everything from the beginning, now they're the same thing and I feel like I got cheated from something I love...

Oh well DoTA 2 is out soon so I can just play that...
