Am I being dumb?

My experience on the Xbox and on the PC were largely the same - There are no second chances. You really can't do something stupid the way you can in MW or Halo and expect to get away with it. The snipers are too well-trenched and they're feasting on people that think they can run around place to place like the Master Chief.

I've had great success being patient and deliberate, even though my skills on the PC are still newbish. Learn your maps, and keep track of the bad decisions you make - Somebody else will probably make them when you're on the opposite team, and then you get to be the teacher.

More than anything, don't pay attention to your KDR. As a medic I sometimes come out several hundred points ahead of anybody else on my team, but I have a horrid KDR. That's fine, because score is usually a pretty decent indication of what you're doing to benefit your team as a whole.

Focus on one class and the role it plays outside of dealing damage - Get good at sprint-by defibbing and knowing where to drop ammo kits, and if you're an engineer by god practice your RPG. A good RPGer can turn the tide of a battle more than any other class, I would say. Find a class that favors your playstyle and figure out how you can best utilize it to help your team.

BC2 was originally built for the consoles, PC was an afterthought. For example, on consoles, snipers on Isla Inocentes are an afterthought because the draw distance doesn't go as far. They were also built for 24 players, not 32. Take this into consideration when you're trying to run and gun like other the PC shooters you said you played, it just doesn't work. You have to take the time to learn the maps, the layouts, and where people are hiding. And trust me, once you know those hiding spots, you can pretty much fire blindly at them with a Gustav and watch the hate chat commence.

The biggest thing that helped me out was creating a new soldier and just experimenting with what I played best with. I also had to take the time to "unlearn" what I was used to from COD and CSS, they're just not the same game as Battlefield. It also takes the stress of keeping up with a K/D ratio. I know at eGO it doesn't matter, and really it shouldn't ever. But let's be honest, its still a big deal for players who want to look legit to a community.

So create a new soldier for experimentation, hide behind terrain, not buildings, and spawn on your squad. I just realized this post is almost 2 weeks old, but if you have any other questions, I or any other BF member will definitely help you out.
