Let me get you guys up to speed on the situation. I'm broke, have no job, and my current video card is starting to die. I will be going back to school soon, so whatever money I will have in the future will go towards it. I still want to play games! This is probably my only chance to get another one for a very long time. I've decided between these 2 cards:
HD6770 (for reference, may buy another brand): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161378&cm_re=hd6770-_-14-161-378-_-Product

PNY GTX 460: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133394

I've already decided on getting the warranty on the 460 if I get it (for obvious reasons). Heres the kicker though. My current PSU only has one 6 pin connector and I don't think I have 2 4pin connectors open. Should I go for the slightly more powerful, slightly more expensive 460, and lose a few important hard drives? Or should I go for the slightly less powerful, expensive, blah blah blah 6770 and keep my hard drives? GO GO GO!

(FYI: I know the 6770 is a repackaged 5770)

Forgot to say, I am open for other suggestions, just think about what I said above.

Shoutbox told me to help you. I wonder why.

I have the 460 and my system is running smoothly :D

Only have it until I get a 590 home :D

Only major difference I see between the two is the 460 is 256bit while the 6770 runs 128bit.

I run a 5770 myself, great card. But I believe the 460 is the better choice here.

It depends on the drives you would be losing over the extra performance. If you have your harddrives set up in a raid and dont want to lose that setup then you should go for the 6770. However, if you just have 2 or 3 or 4 harddrives in your system you can either a ) combine most of the stuff into one b) only use two one for games and one for w/e it is you do on a computer.

Also if your harddrives arent really used for anything except like music storage or what not you can always just transfer those to an external or just hook them back up when you aboslutely need too.

Otherwise i feel the 460 will do fine but it depends on what you are using your current harddrives for

Just an FYI: EVGA cards have full lifetime warranty. After a couple of years, my 9800 GX2 died and they send in a brand new card as a replacement. Didn't even have to pay S&H, which was a nice surprise. Took them about a week to receive, verify it as a dead, and ship a replacement back out to me. I think I got the GTX 285 since the 9800GX2 wasn't in production anymore. If you have a problem with the card they're shipping you, you can always discuss it with them. Oh, and the lifetime warranty support was renewed with the GTX 285. Only caveat is you have a few weeks to register the card on their website before it expires. Otherwise, no warranty, but it's really easy to register so only laziness is the problem.

Well I talked to a EVGA rep online about this matter, and I was told that I would not get a lifetime warranty on the 460 if I had purchased one from newegg, since they, as far as I know, did not refurbish these models. However, I was told I could buy directly from them for $50 more and get the lifetime warranty. So, heres how it goes down. Get the same 460 for more with the lifetime warranty, or get the 6770? Don't forget the following factors:

-No Job
-All money will go towards school.
-Current video card dying as we speak, starting to see occasional artifacts :( It also doesn't require any connectors, takes all power from the motherboard.
-Only have 1 6-pin connector on my PSU, the majority of my 4-pin connectors are being used for my hard drives, which I use for mass storage of important data.

Wonder why I'm abusing bold text today >_>

only cards with the AR or A1 endings get lifetime

KR and everything else is between 1-5 years

They make adapters that only use one molex connector (i have one). If you can do that, i would get the 460.

otherwise the 550Ti could be an option, or the 5770

I just got my 460 today xD I love it

you know how to milk it in, don't you?:cursing::cursing:

I've made my decision. I'm getting the 6770/5770. Currently my dad has been laid off (seems that be standby as a school bus driver doesn't pay too well in the summer, hehe), so I have to use some of my money to help around the house (mostly groceries). Turns out that being the president of the union of school bus drivers doesn't get paid when someone messes up their numbers >_>. After serious consideration, I would have paid the extra amount to get the 460 or 550 in a heartbeat, but I just don't have the money. At least I have enough money to buy a card more than $100 though :).
