Vista hangs when renaming files

^^^^^^ Whenever I try to change the name of a file or folder it just hangs (freezes and I can't stop it.) I keep seeing things like do a restore, but I would like to know what I can try before that.

I wouldn't recommend a restore until you're 100% sure this is not something malicious.

The reasons for this is because if you system restore, you may end up doubling an infected file in your SYSTEMRESTORE folder, creating twice the problem.

So when you try to rename any file of folder that exists in your hard drive, your computer locks up? Please go into detail on what happens so I may better serve you.

can you create new files?
