One of the big complaints from gamers was the spotting system in the recent Battlefield games (most notably Bad Company 2), where enemies spotted would be marked, and the marker would stay on them even if the enemy retreated behind cover. This is why many referred to 3D spotting as wall hack.
Many have lobbied DICE to change the system, and it seems they’ve listened. According to DICE game designer Alan Kertz, the 3D spotting has been revamped in Battlefield 3. When you spot an enemy and he is in direct line of sight, a red marker will appear and will stay on the enemy as long as he is in your line of sight. If the enemy withdraws behind cover, the marker will disappear. However, the enemy will still be shown on the mini map for a set period of time.
Vehicles on the other hand, will always be marked, even if they retreat behind cover and you can’t directly see them. It will also be possible to spot enemies while in “freelook” inside jets, helicopters and other vehicles.Since we are all pretty much going to be playing BF3 on PC, please add commo rose as a feature of BF3 for PC.
It was confirmed recently. Proof is in the link below:
http://twitter.com/#!/L_Twin/status/103497957541806083
Commo-rose is in the PC version of BF3 (nothing on console for that yet).
For those who don't know what commo rose is, it's a very effective way of communicating with your team (similar to L4D's radial menu).
Whenever you request a team action such as a medic or ammo, everyone on your team is notified of your need for whatever team action you require.
Here is an example of commo-rose in action on BF2142:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwyuyEjfonM
It is so much better than the communication system in BC2 because you could only request help from one teammate at a time.
Along with Kunai's insight on the Commo-Rose, here is another straight-to-the-point image.

- Motion sensors are back, but cannot be thrown, and have to be deployed.
- The EOD bot can be used to arm MCOMs, repair vehicles and disarm mines.
- Players can spawn on any squad member now, but DICE is looking into it.
- Kill-cam is back.
- Jet max height is 1000m (same as BF2).
- Jets will be available on consoles as well.
- Bullets from different weapons have different velocity speeds, bullet drop is back as well.
- Weapons are faction specific, but you can unlock other faction’s weapons once your rank up high enough.
- Weapon silencers will be available on almost all weapons except shotguns.
- Assault rifles with long, high-zoom scopes will have “glint” as well.
- Claymores are back. You can crouch past them, but have to use explosives to blow up claymores and mines.
- Vehicles will have regenerative health until being disabled.
Information on Multiplayer: http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/bat...efield-3-multiplayer-game-mode-explained.aspx
Changes to Rush are:
* You cannot use explosives or shoot at the M-COM to take it out. Only arm and disarm.
* If the attacking team arms the M-COM but runs out of tickets, the match will continue until the M-COM detonates or defenders disarm it
* If the defenders start disarming an M-COM just before it’s about to blow, the explosion is prevented until the disarm is accomplished. If the defender gets killed during the disarm process, the M-COM will instantly blow

Battlefield 3 will have similar system requirements as the previous Battlefield game, Bad Company 2. Battlefield 3 is powered by the Frostbite 2.0 engine, which is based on the previous Frostbite 1.5, which powered Bad Company 2. While the Frostbite 2.0 engine has a lot of new features compared to 1.5, it is also more optimized as well, which will most likely result in similar performance and Battlefield 3 system requirements for the PC. Since Battlefield 3 won’t be supporting DirectX 9, it won’t run on Windows XP.
RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- OS: WINDOWS 7 64-BIT
- PROCESSOR: QUAD-CORE CPU
- MEMORY: 4 GB
- HARD DRIVE: 20 GB
- GRAPHICS CARD: DIRECTX 11 COMPATIBLE WITH 1024 MB RAM (NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560 OR ATI RADEON (6950)
- SOUND CARD: DIRECTX COMPATIBLE
- KEYBOARD AND MOUSE
- DVD ROM DRIVE
MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- OS: WINDOWS VISTA (SERVICE PACK 2) 32-BIT
- PROCESSOR: 2 GHZ DUAL CORE (CORE 2 DUO 2.4 GHZ OR ALTHON X2 2.7 GHZ)

So far only 6 maps have been confirmed for Battlefield 3, Operation Metro (the alpha map), Caspian Border (from the recent gameplay footage) and remakes of popular BF2 maps which will be released for BF3 in a DLC called “Back to Karkand”. You can read more about the maps here. In addition, it has been confirmed that Battlefield 3 will feature 3 different war theaters; Paris, New York and Tehran, although it is uncertain whether that applies to the singleplayer campaign, multiplayer, or both.
Operation Metro
![]()
The first Battlefield 3 map to be showcased is Operation Metro, which was playable during E3 2011 and the Alpha. The map features a Rush mode, and is set in Paris, where the battlegrounds range from parks, to city streets, to underground subways. To see more of Operation Metro, check out this video.
Caspian Border
![]()
This map was released during the GamesCon BF3 segment, in which co-op mode was also demonstrated. The map shows a wide variety of vehicles, numerous capture points, and a nice combination of forests/fields.
Gulf of Oman
![]()
Gulf of Oman will retain much of the same visual style as the Battlefield 2 version, and a very similar desert setting, with both urban areas and more wide-open spaces for tank and jet combat.
Sharqi Peninsula
![]()
Sharqui Peninsula was a tight, urban map in Battlefield 2, and it looks to continue that style in Battlefield 3, set during the evening, which provided interesting and warm colors.
Wake Island
![]()
Wake Island takes a big departure from the Battlefield 2 version. Instead of lush, tropical visuals, we get a more darker and gritty map which has been ravaged by war and combat.
Strike at Karkand
![]()
Strike at Karkand was a dusty, grim map in Battlefield 2 with low visibility and almost no colors besides khaki. The Battlefield 3 version looks a lot more colorful and lifelike, and looks awesome!
Battlefield 3 classes
Battlefield 3 will feature 4 classes (or kits), much like previous Battlefield games. Developer DICE feels this is the sweet spot in terms of accessibility and gameplay. The classes/kits in Battlefield 3 can therefore be expected to be virtually the same as they were in Bad Company 2. The classes in Battlefield 3 were fully revealed during E3 2011.
Assault
The Assault class carries a primary weapon consisting of an assault rifle — like the M4 and AK-47 — and is now merged with the medic class — the Assault class can now heal and revive teammates. It can also function as a more offensive class with ability to swap out the revive kit for a grenade launcher.
The confirmed weapons for the Assault class so far are:
- M16A4 assault rifle for USMC, AEK-971 for Russian side.
- M9 sidearm for USMC, MP-443 for Russian.
- Grenade launcher or defibrillator kit.
The Support class returns to its role it had in Battlefield 2, with its main purpose to provide heavy fire from a Light Machine Gun (like an M249 SAW), and resupply teammates with ammunition. In Battlefield 3, the Support class is broadened with the ability to use lighter weapons and assault rifles like the M4, with several attachments, including a powerful flashlight which has the ability to blind enemies in dark places.
The confirmed weapons of the Assault class so far are:
- M249 SAW for USMC, PKM or RPK for Russian side.
- M9 sidearm for USMC, MP-443 for Russian.
- The ability to use lighter weapons with attachments like the M4 or AK-74U.
- Ammo pack to resupply teammates.
- Ability to mount LMGs on surfaces for greater accuracy.
The Engineer class in Battlefield 3 is very similar to the class in Bad Company 2: its primary role is to engage tanks and armored vehicles with an array of rocket launchers such as the RPG-7 and the AT4, or use anti tank mines. The primary weapon is a carbine rifle, with a variety of unlocks available, ranging from shotguns to sub machine guns.
- Main heavy weapon includes the AT4 for USMC and RPG-7 for Russian side
- Primary weapon is a carbine (like an M4 or AK-74U).
- Rocket launchers can be swapped with anti tank mines.
- Repair tool for repairing friendly vehicles.
- M9 sidearm for USMC, MP-443 for Russian.
The Recon class carries a sniper rifle for long range engagement, but for Battlefield 3, the Recon class has a more active role as well. The Recon also has the ability to call in artillery strikes (expected unlock). Furthermore, the Recon can equip C4 explosives to blow up enemy vehicles or map objectives.
Recon weapons:
- Semi automatic sniper rifle, MK11 for USMC, SVD for Russian side.
- Will have a wide variety of team-play oriented gadgets.
- C4 explosive pack.
- M9 sidearm for USMC, MP-443 for Russian.
