Anyone on here manage to score one?

I have a two step plan:

1. I ordered one a few minutes ago from amazon @$400. Assuming the rumors are true, the price will drop to $99 tomorrow, which will be before mine ships, thus giving me the discounted price.

Step 2. I ordered on for instore pickup, paying with cash from Office Depot. On their main page, they have an add for $130 touch pad, which i have printed out, and i will use as bargining material.

doesnt the touchpad run an hp made os, not android or anything. IF so i would rather get a droid tab or ipad something with apps already available and what not.

1) The price match isn't automatic - you'll probably have to call or cancel and reorder.

2) Don't count on OD taking a loss like this. More than likely they'll issue a buy back and return it to the vendor (HP). Also OD does not match clearance prices - your mileage will vary. Expect in store pick up orders to be canceled. Stores can (and will) cancel orders for a variety of reasons.

99$ vs $399

And android is being ported as we speak

1. that is the plan

2. I have printed out their ad, and they already have one on hold for me. I will go there, get really angry if they refuse, and see what happens.

That's what I was told, too.

Tried to get one - I was going to put it in the guest bathroom as reading material for guests, but all the discounted sites were sold out, and I didn't want to hassle with the full-priced listings - hope that works for you!

I feel bad for HP on this. They tried to do an Apple and had no success with their closed WebOS. So they discounted everything to dirt cheap. People will have Android, ubuntu, and who knows what running on these things in no time.

ok, good news guys

I think amazon is pretty much a total loss at this point, so i will probably cancel that one.

Luckily, OD offers price match on themselves, so i should be able to walk into the store tomorrow, and get them to match the screen shots i have of their site.

1) A lot of stores are now sold out. Or at least, sold out til they sell their next batch of them.
2) @Jubei - All the stores are taking a loss. They've already cut the original price by $100 so this is a liquidation/fire sale.
3) @silenc3d - It runs WebOS, which is Palm's OS for both their tablets and smartphones. And when HP acquired Palm for $1.6Bn, they used that same OS to power their own product line. And obviously, they're going to write off that entire $1.6Bn purchase as "goodwill," as we call it in Accounting. In other words, it's the amount the purchasing company pays in excess of what the acquired company is worth. In short, HP just gave out $1.6Bn for nothing now.
4) Slickdeals had a $15 code that was usable, so the 16GB WiFi could have been bought for $84.99. But with the sold outs everywhere, good luck using it.
5) As of Aug 20, a news article posted this: "However if you’re in the U.S. I’d suggest heading over to your Wal-Mart and Office Depot stores. At Wal-Mart you should be looking for a price match and at Office Depot they have already started to mark-down the TouchPad in-store. –At Office Depot you do pay $129.99 for the 16GB model instead of the $99 HP dropped it down to."

Team #touchdroid… we are porting #Android to the HP Touchpad. Team consists of @ProTekkFZS , @rhcp011235, @Framework43 and me. $99 TPad FTW!

I got mine!

Gonna go back tomorrow, and see if i can get an aditional $30 back by showing them an ad for it at $99

(Office Depot price is $130 for some reason)

OD only adjusted it to the $130 price point for whatever reason, reflex. Worth a shot to see if they'll price match the other stores. Good luck!

Let us know how you like the Qualcomm CPU and hardware. It's ironic that I would buy the Touchpad to put Gingerbread on it when WebOS was the strong point of the Touchpad, and the hardware was found to be average/mediocre. But that's up to various reviewers who might be in love with iPads or Android tablets.

I cant really tell if it is the hardware or the software, but it feels a bit sluggish at times. When in app, it is fine, but lauching things, takes a long time. The OS is much smoother than android (probably due to native hardware acceleration)

The hardware is known to be fast, it is a Cortex A8 based Qualcomm snapdragon, so it's not like it is a bad chip.

and yea, the second a somewhat stable GB/HC port comes out, webOS is going bye bye.

I love webOS, but it ain't got any apps..... :(

I was reading Anandtech, reflex, and they're thinking it's WebOS surprisingly enough. They can't find any logical reason why the Touchpad performs so slow based off of its hardware, since there are many similarities to it and the iPad, as well as some adjustments to make up for any deficiencies. They think the software just needs more optimization and better graphic drivers as that should/would have corrected the "sluggishness" of the tablet.

On a similar note, I can't find the article, but I remember reading one where they put WebOS on the iPad2 and it ran much faster, twice as fast in fact. So the question is: WTH?! Is it the software or is it the hardware?!

well, the iPad 2 uses a cortex A9 based chip, so it should be faster.

the touchpad performs fine inside of apps, and the ui is smooth for the most part, but occasionally you will hit some sort or strange slowdown.

every thing seems to point to a lack of software optimization. If HP worked on it a bit, it would probably get much snappier. Sadly, I don't see that happening, so now I wait for CM7.

Personally, I think that Apple has the tablet down pretty good, so far there is not anything that comes close to what the iPad has to offer.

I have all three

iPad 2

Motorola Xoom

and now a Touchpad.

They are all pretty much the same.

I was thinking about getting this, there are rumors circulating that hackers/free lance people may pick up the software?

I'm holding out for the ASUS Transformer 2 with the new Kal-el chip from nVidia. Would have bought the Touchpad as an investment on getting gingerbread in the future, but oh well. Can't wait to see Team TouchDroid get it ported to tablet, so you can let us know about how well it works, reflex.

ordered one through the HP SMB website last night. Got an e-mail confirmation today at 6 PM. No clue if that will go through or not

But

I have a backup(new primary).....refreshed eCOST.com at about 4:20 and on and finally about 5 minutes after refreshing they did the bargain countdown crap and the price changed from $399 to $99. Pounced on that as fast as i could and got through the checkout smoothly no lag. E-mail confirmation immediately. There website lagged like hell about 5 minutes after i ordered it and now its down. They the same people that were selling them on amazon through "on sale" well theyre all under the same corporation.

Hopefully i get mine this coming week and hopefully the eCOST one gets shipped tomorrow

Amazing deal for $99......can't wait till they get honeycomb on it though WebOS ain't too bad itself for web browsing etc...

Don't know why that video has so many negatives.....seems true to me. A video of honeycomb on the device wednesday? Can't wait
