Video Card problems

Just recently I've started having problems with my video cards (2 MSI 560ti GTX) and can't seem to figure out what.

To start I do know a far amount about hardware, but not with software. And well I cleaned out the dust in my desktop, removed the heatsink, got behind the mobo, got out the video card and blew out the dust. So I put it all back together as I've done several times before but this time it doesnt get past where windows says loading. It just goes black and stays that way. So I restarted in safe mode and re-installed the drivers for the cards and it booted up fine.

So I tried to play some minecraft, played for about 3 mins and suddenly it stops and says something about an OpenGL error (code:8 i think). So I accept that I can't play that and move on. Then I remember that I have to put my video cards back in SLI, so I do that and boom, screen goes black and nothing happens...

So I do what I did before (safe mode, drivers blah blah blah) and it works, but minecraft still wont play and nor does the SLI.

Now I'm not sure what it is, could be the newest driver, maybe the connector for the SLI is messed up, I dont know and was wondering if someone could help.

what i have found so far is not that mutch, it looks like 1 MSI 560ti GTX card is connected with a other cable, but i think that you have double checked it already. is your pc recognizing 1 or 2 MSI 560ti GTX?

Yup it's recognizing both of them, and I made sure the connector was on and not loose.

2 things you can do...

1) install an earlier driver from nVidia
2) find and install the SLI patch... also on nVidia web site.

I had this problem about a year ago... so I deleted EVERYTHING!!!11 nVidia and EVGA... rebooted.. navigated to nVidia downloads and did a full fresh install.

for 1 reason or another, when nVidia cards are SLI'd, and then removed, it messes with something in drivers between the cards.. if you ever look at your video cards system information.. they will be running completely different codecs from the same driver download.

Thanks Silent, that fixed it and I did try installing an earlier driver that didn't work, but I guess they fixed the latest one.

I would try one card at a time and see if you can isolate the problem to a Sli problem, or a card problem and if its a card problem, perhaps you can find out which card.

Doing a complete format and overhaul seems a bit extreme.

Perhaps have a go at it with this first, before going to that much trouble..
