So my neighbor made me play the game.

I've probably only clocked about 30 hrs or so? Lvl 12.

Played Garen when he was free, but that stopped quickly, then I played Alistar for quite a bit (also during free), and became quite decent at ganking with him and throwing stray opponents back to the party (and this is before I even hit lvl 10 so didn't have Flash)

A friend suggested me to try Kassadin.... now I'm REALLY enjoying myself with him, and used him up to lvl 12 now. Even decided to buy him once his free rotation was gone. So he's my first purchase haha.

I like the flexibility this guy offers when ganking, specially once you pump up his AP. I just need to learn to not be stubborn and pursue champions when other enemy champions are near the area. Need to do painful harassment, escape, and probably reappear again and finish whatever I was targetting.

Though all my plays usually involve me sticking with the team or being along the sides staying out of sight, but still jumping in once team fights are initiated by someone, or ganking a retreating hero, when my team made short work of some of them.

I haven't tried, but probably should start trying to hide in enemy jungles, once I hit lvl 8, aiming for ganks/harassment at people who are laning still or enemy champs who stroll into the jungle without knowing I'm there.

Maybe with an Archangel Staff and Mejai's Soul Stealer assuming that's possible by lvl 8.

Probably should throw in a couple Oracles, when I still have the free slots to do so to help scout for potential ganks, till it becomes late game where afterwards I finish up outfitting myself. (I go heavy on the AP to the point I reached 707 AP, which includes Archangel Staff, Mejai Soul Stealer, Death Cap and so on)

A friend of mine says though that using stack equipment like Mejai, most competent teams take this as a "Please kill me!"

I might switch that out for Guardian Angel, since it IS possible to Rift walk to safety after you're revived right?

There's plenty of info on builds items etc in wikia and mobafire.

And I have some friends who have plenty of experience already to ask info from em.

I admit this is my first time playing the genre (never played DotA etc) but I can adapt quite well thanks to all the experience I've had from other games, once you learn the mechanics and all that.

The real speil is learning the terminologies (that'll come by naturally) and remembering all the champions names once you're not looking at it in the loading screen lol.

That and actually remembering what their potential role is in battle, and whether or not they do AD, or AP etc. so that your build can alter based on the circumstances. (Which is something I need plenty of work on)

Mejias is risky. The enemy team will be able to see your stacks and WILL focus you if they can. You'd have to play it safer if you bought one. Then again, Kassadin is one of the best characters for escape. Depends on if you can kill and stay alive, no matter what. You should also try getting a Zhonya's Hourglass. That might give you a bit of survivalbility, and also allowing you to survive a team fight.

Guardian angel just makes you come back after two seconds. If you get killed, they'll most likely wait and kill you unless it's a team fight, but when you come back to life (With little hp/mp) you'll get focused again.

You seem very good for someone with so little experience, I guess the next step is just practise, takes time to learn the damage, range, capabilities, speed, abilities etc. of all the enemy champions with varying levels of items, but like with a lot of games like this, knowing what your enemy can do and learning to counter it is half the battle.

I've escaped with 46HP at one point. Hrm I think I'd take the Leviathan instead. It's a stack but at least it gives 15% reduced damage at max. Or a Rylai's Crystal Scepter for a weapon that isn't a stack type.

I was told "Tankadins" (Kassadins who tank) are hilarious.

Seeing people get Leviathans are pretty rare, but if you actually maxed it,

1. You'd be pretty much fed

2. It'd take at least 3 people to kill you at that point.

It's only wise to build tanky on a character as long as they have a decent amount of CC (Crowd Control). Kassadin actually has a very good AoE slow, so I guess you could pull that off, but going AP is better.

I've actually seen a troll Kassadin who built completely AD. All he would do is tele next you, hit you 5 times and you'd die. That's comical stuff.

Well the Rylai's is a great trade up with Mejai's since it would give slow on top of the silence for Null Sphere, and I imagine Force Pulse would stack with the scepter and make people go even slower? And his ulti would make people go slow too.

80 AP with slow effects over 160 and cooldown which can be fixed with CDR shoes.

It's a nice alternative.

Though I've seen what all out AP can do. 707 AP har har.

Rylai's is a great idea. I'd build that instead of Mejais or Leviathan, mostly because those are a bit risky. Rylais is a good mix of both of them; taking some benefits of both of those. As for the slow, yes, it would make them slower, but the time limit would be the same. The slow is good enough to not need Rylais, but your 'q', 'w', and ult can slow as well.

I don't think Nether Blade procs Rylais. It is an auto attack enhancer, things like Yi's ult and wuju style don't proc Rylais, so I doubt it would change for Kassadin.

I was waiting for you to post.

I just assume it goes with Rylais because it adds AP damage. Wuju style adds AD, not AP.

It really depends on the skill.

The only thing that adds Rylais to an auto attack is Cho'gath IIRC.

You're forgetting Akali. Her passive gives her partial percentage of AP to go to her auto-attacks. That's why every attack slows, and that building her AP is legit. That and the fact that all her moves scale off of AP.

The only way Cho'gath's autoattacks can use a slow is because of his 'e' ability. It does AP damage.
Rylais can only slow with AP.

You are wrong.

Rylai's slows from abilities, the ability doesn't have to have AP scaling.

As you can see I have just hit Annie with resonating strike, an AD scaling ability, she is slowed by Rylai's.

You are right about Rylai's being a great item on Akali, but once again you are wrong on the reason, her passive does not make it function like a frozen mallet, it is because she can perma slow people while bursting them down with her ultimate and Q.

Here you can see me auto attacking a minion, there is no Rylai's slow despite her passive.

Cho'Gaths auto attack modifier works with Rylai's because the spikes are treated as an ability that comes out when he attacks, its a quirk of the skill, and the only exception to the rule.

That is interesting. I didn't exactly know that, but now I do. I assumed it went with AP because it IS an ability power.

Really? It's always slowed for me. Of course I haven't played Akali in a few weeks. But even my regular attacks have always slowed for me. I could be wrong though.

That's what I was saying.

Rylais is for ability power. It slows with abilities. The reason I've never tried an AD with it is because it's.. well just stupid. Also, I assume it works with ability power because ability power comes from.. well abilities. You just pointed out the core of why the slow happens; I just pointed out that it slows because you use AP from an ability.

I do love the fact that you'd go out of your way to prove me wrong though. ;)
Kassadin's 'w' DOES slow, like I expected it would.

Interesting if it does then, because no other auto attack modifier, even ones that scale with ability power besides Cho'Gath work with Rylai's. (Kog'Maw's w, Kayle's E, Orianna's Passive, Rumble's Passive.) Most likely a bug, it didn't slow before it was changed from armor penetration.

Regardless, Rylai's isn't a great item on Kassadin really.

@Axel A solid core build should be something along the lines of Catalyst and Tear, which you should turn into Rod of Ages/Banshees, then Deathcap, then turn the Tear into Archangels, Lich Bane, Void Staff or Guardian Angel. Choice of boots is by discretion, but generally on Kassadin you want Sorcerer's or Mercury's, depending on the amount of crowd control the enemy team has. Kassadin is an assassin mage and should flit in and out of battles bursting down the enemy squishies. He needs high mana if you want to use your ultimate a lot, and he needs large amounts of AP. Rod of Ages will provide you with a nice bit of health to survive any harassment and then get out. Lich Bane will let you take down towers very fast, and basically adds a 1.0 ap ratio to your auto attacks, if there is anyone that wants that it is Kassadin. You can quickly voidwalk in, silence, slow, auto attack, ignite and get out and it will probably be the death of the enemy carry or mage if they haven't bought a banshee's veil. Since you are a low level you should put your mastery points into getting the most vital things, 9 points in offense for Archaic Knowledge, then shoot for 3 points in good hands, 1 point in perseverence, 4 points in awareness then utility mastery and meditation. Summoner spells should be Ignite and Flash. You want to get blue buff as often as possible for yourself to maintain high mobility.

I'm not sure if it still gives armor pen now, but it actually gives an AP boost. That's why I thought that as long as you do AP damage, it goes with Rylais. I'm pretty sure Akali used to be able to slow with her auto-attacks because of her passive, or maybe that was a bug. Or maybe, since Akali is a dash/get in your face character, I just kept hitting them repeatedly, keeping them slow.
They could have changed it in some previous patches; I haven't been playing AP champs recently.

And for a new player (I've been playing with him for a bit), he's not bad. He looked up some other builds from other sites, and has been reflecting his build from it. I bet by the time he's level 30 he'll be better than at least 80% of the eGO players.

That's a scary and bold declaration you're shooting there >_>; I'm flattered lol.

Thanks for the advice Carmine! The only problem I see is actually trying to get the blue buff only to have lost half your health trying to pull it off. Well a good team would help you out with this, though this sometimes backfires and the other person gets the kill and just walks off without saying sorry!

Although it isn't a typical item on Kassadin, if you are finding yourself low on health often you can build a Hextech Revolver and sit on it for a while before turning it into Will of the Ancients.
