LadyFace's adventures with Beer.

So guys, I'm thinking that I will make a beer 'To-Drink' list and I'll review all the beers I decide to put on the list, on here! I figure it'll be fun to do and there's so many to try :D

I think I'm turning into some sort of Beer fanatic cause I'm so interested in all the different types and different flavors/textures, etc. Herp Derp.

I shall make a list and add it later. Lol.

That actually a pretty good idea. Also try this, it smells like bacon and tastes like amazing:

If you guys ever have a chance to try Red Oak, you really should. It's mainly only in the Greensboro, NC area and its even kind of hard to find here.. but it's damned delicious.

1) Pabst Blue Ribbon

Pabst Blue Ribbon, or PBR as the kids like to say, turns out to be an alright beer by my book. Established in 1882 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, It's cheap, easy to find and actually has a surprisingly distinct but smooth flavor. Fun fact, Pabst Blue Ribbon was once called Best Select, then became Pabst Select, and then arrived at it's current name after the practice of tying a blue ribbon around it's bottle neck (a practice that ran from 1882 to 1916) became it's trademark. It seems like college kids know what they're doing in regards to their choice of PBR. Somehow, PBR earned an association with 'being a hipster' and I can see how, since I've seen many a young college kid drinking it up. But hey, you can't hate too much. Sorry to disappoint you Hipster-haters out there, but I think this is one trend you may not mind following if you're holding a party with a bunch of friends and are short on cash.

2) Dos Equis Amber

xx.jpg

Ahh, Dos Equis Amber. A year ago, I was lured to try it after seeing The most Interesting Man compare drinking Dos Equis to doing random events. "I don't drink often, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis." Sad to say however, is that the epic funniness of the commercial doesn't live up to it's taste! All I can really say about Dos Equis Amber is that the taste reminded me of Olives and didn't seem remotely all that pleasant. I mean, I love Olives as much as the next guy, but not when my beer tastes like them. Cause I mean, I'm drinking a beer, not a Martini!

that awkward moment when ladysteve says "as much as the next guy"

Mexican beer has always had a reputation for being crap, no surprises there.

Thats Schlenkerla Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Marzen for those of you that can't read the crazy font.

The reason it smells like bacon is because they apparently "smoke" the beer, it also comes in two other varieties, urbock and weizen.

My wife is a manager of a liquor store, has been working there for almost 6 years. Name a beer and I have tried it. Hell, name anything and I have tried it. More than happy to point you junior drinkers in the right direction!

3) Budweiser

Budweiser is the first beer I ever tasted. It was probably a Saturday in 1994 when I walked down stairs to my dads office, and witnessed him attending to his usual rituals of an evening Budweiser and the news, along with possibly doodling on notepads. Kicking back after a long day at the office. I came down to bother him (like I do) and I guess on that day, I had decided to inquire about the beverage he was drinking. I asked for a taste in which he replied with," You won't like it." I didn't care though and insisted for a taste regardless. He warned me just a sip and honestly, he didn't have to. I did not like it, and of course I wasn't going to cause I was 4! But I remarked shortly afterwards," It tastes like nothing!"

Budweiser isn't that bad. But it's definitely not my go to beer. The taste is crisp but not rich or entirely flavorful but everyone else seems to enjoy it okay so perhaps it's just me.

4) Bud Light

The night before Halloween last year, My friends and I were enjoying a bon fire out on the land late at night, trying to freak each other out since I live in the middle of no where and it's dark as pitch out here at night. Kenny had snagged a few Bud Lights from his house before heading over so we drank them as the fire began to die.

We all agreed that Bud Light was awful, but we decided to enjoy it for the fact it was beer instead of complaining about what we didn't have. Bud Light isn't really that great. I don't really see why anyone wants to drink it. It sucks! I figured I might enjoy it more if I ate some food with it, but it just made it worse. It sucked and I hated it. Tasted like piss. I think if my memory serves me well, I ended up throwing it somewhere in the field, unfinished. That's just how awful it was.

5) Coors Banquet

Now this is a beer I can really enjoy easily. I had this a few weeks ago down at East Carolina University (when I got my all my hair shaved off, coincidentally) with my friend Richard. He's this sarcastic, tough but lovable Bostonian-Irish. He knows his beer so he decided to be nice and share. The taste was easy but rich at the same time! I was surprised how smooth and enjoyable it was and I can only imagine it probably tops Coors Light by a million miles. It was so nice, I had to try it twice ;) I can easily say that I love Coors Banquet and I hope you do too!

6) Magic Hat: Hex - Ourtoberfest

"Get boxed at The Philthy Ox."

As with most Magic Hat beers, there's an interesting fortune for you under each and every bottle cap. This was the second beer I bought after I turned 21. I acquired it from Target, but there's a slight possibility you may have a cheaper time getting it at Walmart. Hex Ourtoberfest has a crisp kind of autumnishness to it, if that makes any sense. I really enjoy it quite a bit. I actually favor it over Samuel Adam's Octoberfest. I feel like the taste sort of stays with you after each swig as opposed to dropping you off at the deep end, which I feel like Sam Adam's Octoberfest does. It can taste a little bit bitter, but maybe that's just my taste buds getting used to the taste. Either way, I love it, totally recommend it, and you should go out and find it now while it's still around. It's only available during the Fall :D

7) Yuengling

A couple of years ago, my sister had kind of gotten into drinking before she turned 21 and I remember her having kept Yuengling in the fridge whenever she was visiting from College. To me, that was my sisters 'PBR' and I figured it tasted awful and that she wasn't fooling anyone by having it around.

But now, in 2011, I discover that sadly, my sister has the upper hand once again! I had this delicious beer back in August during the same week I tried Coors Banquet at East Carolina University. To put it simply, I would describe the taste as 'neutrally smooth'. I wouldn't say it's rich but it's good all the same for casual drinking with friends and the like. I like it.
