Hello members of the Battlefield division! While Slaz recently touched base with you on activity and such, I wanted to assist and had some free time so I'm here to bore you with another of my infamous guides! 
To lead off, you must first question yourself: what does it mean to you to be a member of eGO? Will you play constantly and fill the servers? Will you be a recruitment whiz? Will you attend every event possible? Will you do all three? Is that even possible? Personally, I encourage you all to strive for at least one. We NEED all three if we want a successful transition into BF3, which cannot be stressed enough.
Part 1: Recruitment
Section 1: Why
Many members don’t know why to recruit. My answer is simple: even if only 2 of 3 recruits stay around (bite me), you just earned two active members for our community. You won’t always have a high success rates with recruits, but don’t let that deter you. Personally, through my own efforts and those of others, I’ve seen HUGE increase in Ventrilo activity. This is a HUGE plus (congrats guys)! With this momentum, we will be prepared for BF3 the second it hit preload.
Section 2: Where
To begin with, I’d like to caution you never to recruit outside of eGO servers…this only puts down the owners of that particular server and can lead to nasty repercussions. However, there are no real limits to where or which server to do it in. Generally, I prefer (and recommend) squad private chats for the most part; granted, in a smaller server or when there seems to be worthy players, you may do it in team/all chat.
Section 3: When
Try not to recruit excessively, especially in smaller servers. This upsets some players, who may then decide to leave. Don’t be pushy, but be helpful. In addition, try to avoid new players to our servers; target regulars in specific. Here I’ll cross myself, but if someone new does join and types “@rules,” they usually have the common sense to follow them (this isn’t foolproof; not always).
Section 4: How
Don’t focus solely on recruiting. You don’t have fun, and people will be annoyed at you pestering them. Instead, play for a time, and then ask your squad mates about joining. If they aren’t interested, hop to the next squad. Always try to be friendly, and try to say hi and introduce yourself before hopping on the recruitment train. Once you’ve snagged someone, try to get their Steam, or xFire/Origin if they don’t have that. Another tactic is to get them on Ventrilo to meet us, then let them decide where to go. No matter what, be sure to guide them through the full process.
Section 5: Retention
After they’re accepted, give them a walkthrough of the forums and Ventrilo. Don’t forget about your recruits. You are their mentor now, so teach them what you can. After a while, your recruits will learn to fit in, and they’ll leave your side. Now is the time to give yourself a nice pat on the back.
Part 2: Server Filling
Section 1: Why
The reasoning behind server filling is different for us all. It could be trying to get noticed, boredom, or maybe you just want to hang out with your friends who invited you. The fact is, it benefits the division, eGO as a whole, as well as yourself. At this crucial point in time, another enticement: the success of our BC2 servers will help council decide on the number of BF3 servers we will rent. Next time, think twice before joining HC Rush, and maybe gang up with some buds to fill Normal Mixed. Empty servers can just as easily be a major downfall as inactivity of members.
Section 2: Where
In this case, I think the where is pretty obvious. Pick an empty server, encourage some friends, and get rolling. Remember, you can find any eGO servers not in your favorites by searching “eGO” (with the proper caps) in the server browser.
Section 3: When
The most critical time for filling servers is early morning EST/CST/PST time zones. At this point, even Heavy Metal and HC Rush often drop off. Within your capabilities, do your best to prevent these drop-offs. Nothing is more satisfying than keeping a full server that way through late night hours. Some people won’t be able to play during these times, which is perfectly understandable; this one is for you night owls, especially. While I’ve put focus on late night/early morning, some servers need it during the daylight too. Try to fill the server you think (or know) is the most popular first, then move on.
Section 4: How
Message some friends. Join the server. Wait for some pubs. Profit! No, really. I mean that. Once you’ve got a solid base of players, look for the next empty server (in the previously described order) and hunt it down. Usually one group of players can get 2 or 3 servers full before they have to leave. Be sure to leave over time, or else the numbers may again drop dangerously low (example: wait 2-3 minutes between leaving server to allow more players to slowly join).
Section 5: The Benefits
Again, this is one thing that determines the number of BF3 servers eGO will run and which BC2 servers will be kept. In addition to that, you will be recognized for your efforts and hard work. With servers like Heavy Metal in the top 10, we get more traffic, which in turn pulls up recruiting numbers. Its really a circle that benefits itself.
Part 3: Event Participation
Section 1: Why
Those loyal attendees are fruitfully awarded for their participation with forum awards such as War Veteran, Squad Leader, Alpha Squad, Squad Up, and Who Let the Dogs Out. In addition, you are recognized for your loyalty to time-based events. Current event/tournament/scrim participation (again, I know, I know) lays out the base for BF3 events. Be prepared for some intense fun! Meetings will be held in Ventrilo as well, so be sure to check the forums for dates and times.
Section 2: Where
Be sure to meet up in Ventrilo before the event. The Event Coordinators will designate the server (usually the emptiest) for the event from there. Also, if there any modifications or questions, now is the time they will be announced or answered. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, in fact, quite the contrary: its good to be sure of the rules and specifications beforehand.
Section 3: When
Try to arrive in Ventrilo 15-30 minutes before events begin. This will give our coordinators time to designate teams, account for players, and prepare the server(s). Events can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 3-4 hours, depending on the day and type of event. Meetings usually run about an hour. To trace back to recruiting, use upcoming events as teasers. Explain how they work and what you do to potential recruits.
Section 4: How
To ensure smooth transitions between games, be sure to obey the coordinators and leadership members assisting them. While this can be hard, you have to struggle to hold your temptations in (and try not to lose like yours truly). If all goes well, everyone will show up on time and be prepared to enter the battlefield. However, do not anger at those who are not ready or doing well. Go out there to have fun!

Events can be massive fun, whether you win or lose. They’re definitely the most fun and easiest of the three, so try to be active with it. If you miss events, you won’t be put down; if you attend events [with a good attitude], you’ll get noticed, possibly promoted, and have loads upon loads of fun. Hell, there’s nothing more relaxing on a Monday night to go relieve your stresses by unloading upon enemy virtual soldiers. Believe me, it can really help ease anxiety.
