I am very jealous That is a very nice set up you got there though, especially the Noctua, it's supposed to be the best air cooler around!

Really sweet build. If you're dropping that much change on the guts, I think you should get a case to match. Something like a nice aluminum Lian-Li or Silverstone case. FT-02 or PC-x500F both come much recommended.

Also, unless you're planning on SLI 750W is overkill. A 500W will power your rig fine and be more efficient overall. Of course, that's nothing against the model you picked. Solid choice, and you won't regret it if you do feel like SLI later down the road.

actually if i were to SLI i would need something 900+ but right now it says i am crusing at about 620W so a 500 would be EXETREME under kill. plus i would get a dif case to have a side panel but i LOVE the look of the phantom

only thing i an say is you will be blown away by the sandy bridge...but on the other side why 1 gtx 580 when you can spend the same or a little less and have 2 6970's and murder the 580....thats just me...but im all about best performance for price...im not dissing on the 580 is great but majorly overpriced

First off, tell me where you can find 2 6970's for the same price as a 580 and is a good company, and i will give you a ticket to heaven......the 6970 is the same price as the 570. Bud get your pricing right. If you meant a 6950 then that would be close but i dont like AMD so. dont even try

So all told, not including S&H, it'll be about $1610. I like it. Don't see any really weak spots or bad parts you're using. And everyone has an opinion about what kind of GPU to use, but hey, that's still a great video card you picked.

Oh come on. That case is fantastic. How could you possibly down the Phantom? Especially the sexy white one? (My wife has that case. I want the black one so we'll have a matching pair) It has more features per $ than virtually any other case out there, and it looks very very nice.


Be careful with that fan. NZXT uses proprietary sizes, so it probably won't fit.

I would have personally gotten either the Corsair HX 650 or 750 PSU, but that's just me. Now that I've used a modular PSU, I will never go back to hardwired models. However, that Phantom has plenty of area to hide wires, so it really is a non-issue.

Newegg is trying to sell you a more expensive PSU so they get more of your money. Take their calculator with a grain of salt. Second, EVGA has to set the rating high in case somebody bought a cheap over-rated PSU that can't actually handle it and fries something. Might check reviews on what cards actually draw instead of someone who wants into your pocket. Again, nothing against the TX750V2.

I admit, pistol, for $130 the Phantom is a good case. But I hate the style of NZXT cases and their gimmicky plastic. I'd rather buy an aluminum case if I'm dropping $1500 on the guts.

I'm not trying to be rude, but with this statement and your implication regarding reference cards, it sounds to me like you're just going off what you hear from the first Google result that comes up in a search.

As APR mentioned, NewEgg's calculator is full of crap (are you really going to trust the word of the merchant who's trying to sell you more expensive but not necessarily BETTER products?). I like NewEgg, but this is the equivalent of an uninformed customer walking into a shop and asking the clerk if he should buy the fancy big-name brand TV that's hundreds more, or the cheaper but equally effective alternative. Of course, the clerk a. probably doesn't know the difference between HDMI and DVI, let alone what the real difference is between brands, and b. is going to tell the consumer to buy the big-name brand because it's more expensive.

As well, EVGA would be signing a lawsuit death warrant if they suggested a lower set wattage and someone bought a crap power supply and [insert terrible thing happening here that's enough for EVGA to get sued over/gain a bad reputation/look like tools as a whole].



Also: I really like the NZXT Phantom, but to echo the others' thoughts and sentiments here -- if you're gonna spend that much moolah on the components, you may as well get a case to match. Aluminum will serve you better, and while their cases aren't visually stunning most of the time, Lian-Li sells some solid (lol) aluminum towers that have more features and more "bang" than the Phantom.

If you can find unlockable cards at those prices, I would be amazed.

Do you understand that not all 6950s unlock? You seem to recommend them in EVERY SINGLE THREAD, and it is kinda misleading. It is mostly confined to reference cards (which for the most part are no longer sold), and a few others like the MSI TFIII PE, and Sapphire toxic (which don't unlock 100% of the time anyways)

you can get buy with about 750 for 580 SLI. I personally would go about 850 just because...idk intuition?


I think about 600-650 is about the sweet spot for this rig.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but... Just look at some of the customer's own reviews on NewEgg and reviews/previews on popular tech-head sites. AFAIK, only the Twin Frozr II has an 100% -- if that -- chance to unlock, with the Sapphire Toxic being the next best choice (less awesome fans, but sometimes cheaper - the downside being it ISN'T a one hundred percent chance of unlock).

If you look at the reviews for nearly every other, if not ALL the other card models. You can even go down the list, serial number by serial number if you have to. Effectively all the cards available on NewEgg/TigerDirect/Amazon, you're going to see complaints along the lines of "did not or could not unlock".

Look at reviews of the reference models by comparison. Typically, that's what the consumer or reviewer is referring to. They've been phasing out the models that you CAN unlock into a 6970. Slowly, but surely.

The TFII's cannot unlock at all, TFIII have a chance
