BF3 to be on Steam by launch?

When you go to join a server, Origin starts automatically.

Confirmed, which means origin is required to play imo.

I'm not confirming or denying the fact, and it may only be like that in the beta. All I'm saying is that EA promised that Origin would not be required. Will they break their word? It seems so.

Gross and Hordor are correct that Origin does start as a background process, but only as a retrieval for serials/keys, I would believe. In a way, it's just like Steam. Is running a process that bothersome to some, or is it a biased situation?

Origin is treated the same way steam is by, yes CD keys and verification of the account bound to the game launched. If they do break that, they will have to somehow make the ENTIRe game launched through the browser pretty much i see issues with that if it does happen.

Do you know this as a fact or are you just speculating?

They have said that origin is required for this game. I agree that it would make no sense whatsoever to have it on steam and force people to use origin, but as far as I know right now, origin is required, and if thats the case, I wouldnt get it on steam anyways.

If it was an option between the two, sure, I would go for steam, but only because I already have all my other games in it.

Just speculation, It would be weird buying it on Steam, launching Origin through Steam, then launching Battlelog through Origin just to play.

We won't know anything until [possibly] it is released on Steam. I can't see why EA couldn't just make Battlelog work with Steam, and they promised before that Origin was only for installation, and it wouldn't require it for BF3 to be played. >_>

EA has said that all new games, BF3 included, will require Origin to run. Like games that use Steam, you can frequently buy them from other sources (retail, Direct2Drive, GreenmanGaming, etc), but activation is required on Steam for those games. I think this would be the same concept. Maybe they'll reach an agreement that will let the game be sold on Steam, but the game will still need Origin to run and you'll still use the Battlelog to select a server, create a party, connect with your friends, etc. It's an integral part of the game that they are not likely to change.

As you could see from the quote I posted earlier in this thread, EA has already made Origin a requirement to run BF3 and all their new games.

I don't think there's any question as to weather or not Origin will be required. Buying it on Steam would pose no advantage over buying it on Origin unless there was some sale or giveaway that isn't available on Origin.

No, if you go to the Battlelog without starting Origin, as soon as you go to join a server, Origin starts and needs to be running while playing BF3. Try minimizing the game while playing and close Origin and see what happens.
