Actually he stole most of the GUI feautures and mouse interface for Mac OS 1 from the Xerox Alto GUI.

If you look at pictures of both they're very different. You can see he took some ideas, but he didn't "steal" them. The Xerox Alto heavily influenced every GUI and still does today, not just mac, but Apple were the first to personalize it.

I don't wanna turn any of this into an argument but, as people have said, people need to give credit where credit is due.

God its sickening to watch this on CNN FoxNews MSNBC and other news outlets....

Comparing him to Thomas Edison and Walt Disney??? REALLY??

Im not trying to harp on the guy but he wasnt the Thomas Edison of our time folks... Steve Jobs did not invent the iphone ipod or ipad FoxNews.. CNN why do you think Steve Jobs started Pixar...?

Let's celebrate the man and what he actually accomplished which was in the early days taking Wozniak's design and selling it and kickstarting the PC revolution and later reinvigorating Apple by starting a media firestorm and a genius marketing campaign by selling devices which had been tried before but modernized by the Apple engineers and developers!

Steve Jobs I will miss you for what you were a marketing and business genius. But I wont get swept up but idiots in the media and on the internet who seem to put you next to Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein as the greatest developers in the history of man.

I feel bad for the people who say that Steve Jobs did nothing for technology. Obviously there are going to be those people, but they are really stubborn. If you don't realize the impact that Steve Jobs had in all aspects of technology then you should do some research into the things hes done over the years.

America and the world has definitely lost a very innovative man, who was a genius at what he did.

And what he did was know how to market and sell a great designed product to the masses. Steve Jobs impact on technology was how to run the business and how to successfully market it. If you want to celebrate the people who actually designed, programmed, and created the functions of the products look to Apple's engineers and of course the great Steve Wozniak.

Wozniak designed the Apple.
Jef Raskin designed the Mac.
Jon Rubinstein designed the iPod along with other engineers.
Steve pretty much told them go investigate this and come back to me with something awesome and I will sell the crap out of it.

When I heard of this news I was very sad :( I looked up to him in the sense that he did what he believed in and achieved what he wanted. I love Apple and even with his passing I hope for the best future for Apple. RIP Steve

Wow honesty sucks huh? All he did was sell and market the stuff. He didn't invent anything except a great marketing scheme.

Tech lost a great salesman, I have respect for him, but I'm not going to give him credit for stuff he didn't freakin' do!

Also

ITT A candleshop owner dies, then everyone credits him with the invention of candles.

Jobs was a co-founder of Pixar, also he is more towards Edison in a sense of borrowing ideas. Edison would borrow from Nikola Tesla all the time. Tesla was a genius with Albert Einstein but Edison not so much and jobs being compared to Disney, very much so he was a very creative person.

RIP Steve Jobs

It takes a genius to transform a plastic circle into a hula hoop.

"You know, for kids!"

Many Apple products over the years may not have been a first of their kind, but it's undeniable that they were the first to bring together certain features that made them more user friendly and appealing. Jobs wasn't an inventor, he was an extraordinary innovator. His attention to detail and perfectionism is comparable to that of Walt Disney. The world is worse off with one less visionary around.

That's your respect?
Coming in a thread about his death and trying to shove us your opinions down our mouth? I don't care if you think the man was just a great business man or if he was the inventor of the known world. He passed away, he made an impact in this world, big enough for mankind to honor him, at least a little. And yet you've got the nerve to go against it, thinking whatever cheap information you've got entitles you to bash him and everyone who honors him.
You are nowhere near respectful. You should know better.

Don't close this thread, It doesn't deserve to be closed by this minor setback.

Calm down he may have worded it wrong or came off as being a prude but I share his thoughts. Its getting old hearing on every media outlet and even online about how Steve Jobs invented the iphone or itunes or the ipod.. Steve Jobs did no such thing. To honor a man for what he didnt do or take part in dishonors his life in my opinion.

I think he was very respectful in giving his thoughts on Steve Jobs. Its wrong to assume Steve was more than what he was. He was a great man no doubt. He was a great businessman and a marketing genius. But lets not go on and on about things he didnt take part in or even do himself.

So before we start a flame war and calling each other out for what we THINK may be disrespectful lets take a step back and look rationally at things. So lets not call someone out for "trying to shove opinions about someone down our throat". Rukus. was simply stating what the man truly was and honoring for what he truly was not for something he didnt do. I have the same problem I cant stand people who idolize Jobs for what he wasnt.

back to the important stuff steve jobs was a great man he will be missed...

lets not bicker and argue over ooo killed ooo

Wow, quite a bit of disrespect going on in this thread. So much for a mature community.

I disagree.

Here is an interesting thing I saw last night....
On CNN, they were finishing up their report on Steve's death. They were talking about Obama and how he got the news. "They (Obama and his staff) received the news on the very product Jobs helped create" and they showed a picture of Obama and Biden Laughing while looking at a device. Talk about major disrespectful oops on the producers part. I laughed at first at the idiocy it took to let that go. The reporter even stumbled a sec when the pic came up "And there they are looking at a similar device" he even was like WTF!!

Seriously guys....You get off topic please don't arguing....Enough is enough theres nothing to argue about.

Please do not let this thread degenerate into a flame war. Whether or not you're an Apple user should not be the focus of this discussion (this is coming from someone who has never owned an Apple product and never plans to). This should be to show respect for someone who has recently passed away.

This is a sad day indeed, saw it on the news before going to school.

Just look in your pocket, around you, go outside and look at people, Apple is everyhere.

RIP.

PMed boo-yeah rukus and prisoner telling them that they have stated their opinion of Jobs and that that is fine but that by continuing to post all they are doing is ruffling feathers and inciting an argument. They have been warned.

If there is one thing that can be said about Steve Jobs, he was one hell of a salesman. That and no one could sport a Black Turtleneck like he could.

I don't get how he is getting so much disrespect. He was a brilliant businessman with a vision that was realized during his lifetime. How on earth can you do anything but respect the man?

Steve Jobs may not have single handedly invented the iPod, iPhone, or iPad, but I think it's pretty safe to conclude that none of those products would have become such an icon in our society if it had not been for him. Like it or not, Mr. Jobs changed the world of technology as we know it, and he deserves respect for his achievements.

If you don't believe this, I challenge you to do something that changes the world forever. I think you'll find that is a very difficult task to accomplish on the scale that Steve Jobs did.
