Hey guys, this is my first Battlefield game for PC (I had BFBC2 for PS3) and I would like some help. I have played a couple of games and well, sucked. I don't know if it's my computer or my skills. Can I have some tips, links to videos, call suggestions? Thank you in advance. Maybe we can game sometime.

All you have to do is make sure you're taking advantage of every opportunity to shoot at the enemy. Sooner or later you'll hit one and he'll die. Easy.

---

But, in all seriousness, if this is your first Battlefield game on the PC, all it takes to get better is practice. What I did when I first started playing was go on the defensive. If you're playing Conquest, pick a friendly control point and post up. Someone will stroll by eventually, and when they do, pop out and yell "Surprise!" while also filling them with lead.

Best of luck!

First thing, I would say is K/D is not everything. (Easy to say from the guy with . 74 K/D right? lol)

Learn to use your Q key and use it often come up on a guy press q real quick that way even if you don't get him the rest of your team knows he's there and might get him back for you. Mark vehicles even if you aren't classed to take out vehicles press Q so the one's who are know where there at. It's pretty much free 10 points per person. Even on hardcore even though no one seems to do it this is a good thing to do cause they still spot on the mini map.

As Acgmacht said the rest of it will come through practice. Taking a defensive position is a good idea. Will help keep a point for your side while still letting you get used to the guns.

Also there's a video Smexy posted on my rage post about teamwork you can watch. It's got some good things on it concerning teamwork which ultimately nets you more points which nets you better guns and thusly better ownage ;)

Anyways that's all I got. Welcome to the true Battlefield (even if it is missing some key components that BF2 had that weren't broken and didnt need fixed... but I digress) and Happy hunting my friend.

What BF3 skills? OHHHHH BURN!

lol jp. The main part of battlefield games is tactics. If you can get a squad behind the enemy you won't have to worry about dying because you've got plenty of backs to shoot at. Also try to play on servers with low ping because that can be the difference between glory and embarrassment. Finally to top off your new found BF3 prowess all you need to do is walk. You will never be quicker than an enemy if you have to stop sprinting first. You'll also be surprised how many people you shoot while they are running right at you. If you need a squadmate or someone to play with just add 'RAINBoWToAST' on battlelog

First I would recommend some co-op, It's a good opportunity to get a feel for the weapons against bots and unlock some decent weapons in the process.

Also, playing engineer is probably the easiest class IMO, you get a noob tube and some weapons that are quite lethal at shorter ranges.

Another thing that I think would be helpful is to scrim with just a handful of friendly people in a near empty server, also in vent would be a big plus. You'll get a massive amount of points just in capping points, helping you rank and get some unlocks. If the you're opposition is in vent and much more skilled they may agree to nerf themselves by using only handguns or spread shottys to avoid total domination (that's how I'd handle it anyway). BTW - I would NOT consider 2-4 players in a large CQ server boosting so long as you're actively fighting, but you will be pulling down a lot of points just through capping.

Thanks guy. Let's support more rocket spam :P I still don't know why its so hard to reduce splash damage and keep direct the same(i.e. piercing damage) for rockets as from what I understood they were designed more to pierce enemy armor than be an absurdly powerful explosion.

My suggestions are, be in Ventrilo if possible and get in a good squad and just shadow them. Assist as medic or ammo guy and get lots of points in the progress. It will also help alot when you get to unlock some better weapons. Once you find your niche on a certain map stick with it until you get bored. Some maps I still am aweful at, cause I just haven't found the special sauce for that map :) Learning the maps is a great deal of doing well, knowing where to go and when. Practice practice practice.
Also if it is easier to get some kills try our hardcore server. You might it easier.

Honestly.... there are only 3 words you need memorize and put into practice. Following these three little words will make any and all Shooters Enjoyable. Those three words are..... Spray and Pray

It is what it is. Not a big fan of rocket spam myself, but it is part of the game and it will kill rather nicely when you fire it in the general direction of your target.

Attack/defend the objective. Trust me - you'll get more kills and less deaths that way as well as more points.

Get to know the maps and how to move around in them depending on the situation. Is there a tank rolling up from the corner from the end of the street, with you having no way of damaging it? Run away.

Using a tank/IFV? Do not be afraid to push up with it (but don't go in being suicidal either or sit your tank far away).

Asking for an improvement in your 'bf3 skills' is a broad topic. Could you please be more specific?

My biggest peice of advice is Slow Down.

FPSs and including BC2 have been tailored toward "Run and Gun/Spary and pray" methodology. BF3 really brings back tactics in the the world of FPS gaming.

Slow down, let enemies come to you, run between cover points, and then wait, check your corners, and try not to ever be alone. Cover your buddies back, work with atleast one other person and you will find great success in this game.

Being anxious and running to find kills, or cap objectives usually will end up with you being dead before you see someone to shoot at. Work toward your objective in a team, focus on that objective and killing anything in your way and you move toward it.

Don't try to do too much. The rest will fall into place.

You can run and gun in BF3 while attacking/defending objectives. I do that.

Most people aren't expecting you to be aggressive so it's an effective playstyle imo.

THIS!!!!!!

Though I die a lot, this tactic gets me my few kills every round. lol

I agree you can, and it is a good strategy at times. Not enough people rush around run and gunning, but when first starting out the run and gun tactic is more likely to get you killed until you are familiar with maps, weapons, choke points, etc.

My long list of tips:

1. This tip is #1 for a reason. Always spot by aiming at an enemy (infantry or vehicle) and press Q, so everyone can see it. Regardless of kit, this is one of the best and simplest ways to help your team.

2. ALWAYS take cover. Run from wall to wall, concrete block to concrete block, crouching often and looking out slowly. Dont go Rambo and run out into the street and unload on some guy a ways away, cause you'll get blown to pieces =). You should rarely be out in the open unless you are really far from any enemies (but even then, enemy jets might mow you down while they are lining up an attack run).

3. As you unlock new things, mess around with certain kits and loadouts til you find one that you really like/works well. Makes the game more fun and brings you in some points.

4. Work with your team and communicate. If you see guys dying all around, and you're a medic, revive them (unless they're in the middle of the street in the middle of a firefight lol). If you're support, throw down an ammo box near a group of friends. If you see a tank that no one is taking out, switch to an engineer and take it out yourself. If you're a sniper, spot some guys from afar that your teammates may not see (like behind stuff). These tactics will bring in tons of points, as well as help your teammates, which can result in more victories.

5. Find some good vantage points and get some kills while you can, but don't stay there too long. With kill-cam, angry enemies will come searching for you, so move after a couple kills.

6. LISTEN! This helps me out so much! If you are running around and are afraid enemies are near, throw a grenade where you think they might be. They'll scream something ("Grenade!" for the US, "Grenata!" in Russian). This will tell you where they are (and it is direction sensitive, so if you hear them to the right, they are to the right), and will allow you to plan out your attack and kill them. Enemies also shout things when they throw grenades, when friendlies die, when they get kills, or when they throw down health or ammo boxes.

7. If you are really struggling, one thing I do is join a squad with someone who is doing pretty well, and stick to them. Switch to a kit they're not (like if they're a support/engineer, switch to medic and heal em; if they're medic, switch to support and resupply them) and follow them around, help them out, and learn from what they do. Chances are, they're team players and will help you out when you need it too.

8. The recoil is much more realistic in BF3 than any other FPS I've played. You should be able to compensate for it/keep it under control after just a little bit, but understand that you usually can't go full auto on someone more than 20 yards away.

9. Learn to use the environment to your advantage. Put mines in shrubs/grass on the road so tanks can't see them as well. Stay crouched/prone behind solid objects as much as you can, and use shadows to your advantage. People whine about camping, but another word for camping is defending.

11. If your team is doing very well, feel free to practice using vehicles. I won't say not to use vehicles when your team isn't doing well, but if you aren't confident in your vehicle-piloting/driving abilities, I'd suggest leaving them to the people who are. And by vehicles I mean tanks/helis/APC's/jets. Humvee's and such are always a good choice, but don't forget to wait for your teammates to hop in.

12. Most importantly, KDR is irrelevant. The only thing that matters in BF is winning, so play to win, not to get the most kills a.k.a "Playing the Objective". You'll inevitably run into 'those guys' that'll run around with an acog/dot on their sniper and go 20/3. Yeah, they get lots of kills, but while they're doing that, their team is losing all their bases/getting their MCOMs blown up.

I hope this helps, and I hope to see you out on the Battlefield soon =)

*Language Warning*
This video is back from BC2, but a lot of the information holds true, plus it's hilarious

In BF3...compared to other shooters (and I believe this applies to pc and console, but I dont own console so I wouldn't know)....

cover and concealment is important....running around a lot, especially in open areas, makers you a bullet magnet. Use shadows in urban areas to your advantage.

Work with your squad. I don't really know how I play. I play in the moment...if my team needs cover, I sit back in a window with my SV98 and pop 'em. If there are enemy vehicles, grab your RPG and let loose...infantry storming down on you, go Assault, and all of the above try support...it has long range capabilities with explosives and heavy firepower. Once you start getting attachments, life will become much easier...and don't worry about your stats! Half the time its what bothers me, but you just have to realize, there will almost always be a better player and stats aren't everything.

Teamwork is the key to everything in the game, without u r doomed. Being on vent and talking with other guys on team does help with tactics and teamwork. Learning some tactics is absolutely necessary.
ex. flanking around the enemy and killing them off so ur team can arm a mcom in rush. Or another similar thing in conquest is if ur team is bogged down at one objective take a heli or another vehicle, drive to another objective hide for a little bit, wait for some guys to spawn on u and take the objective, most of the time the enemy would fall back to retake the objective allowing ur other teammates to move up if they r smart enough.
DONT FORGET TO USE COVER AND DONT STAY PINNED. A concrete wall would protect u from most small arms fire but when a rocket comes at u, ur dead. Always keep on moving if u camp enemies will figure out how to kill u quickly (if they smart enough).
It also nvr really hurts to fire ur weapon if u hve a clear shot or a quick opportunity. There is a chance u may kill the guy but if u dont on the first try he may run back out towards u and then u can kill him.
DONT GO ALL RAMBO AND SHOOT MGs FROM THE HIP AND FULL AUTO, BURST FIRE IS THE WAY TO GO.
DONT FORGET TO PRESS Q TO SPOT ENEMIES
like everyone else has said KDR is not that important, its better to have a nice W/L ratio instead, most of the time it shows u hve teamwork.
DONT FORGET UR NINJA SKILLS
