This one is strange.

I had a kit of PNY XLR8 DDR3 memory go out on me several weeks ago, so I got PNY to issue me an RMA for it. So I sent the memory in, and I finally received it back today... only it's not what I sent in.

I sent in a 2x2GB DDR3 1600mhz CAS 8 memory.

I received back 3x2GB DDR3 1600mhz CAS8 memory.

I'm about to get on their support site about this, because although this is cool (but I don't really have the need for the 3rd stick), that means that the product that they sent back to me is not the same product as I bought from newegg, and thus, I cannot prove that I actually bought it.

Has anyone else had something like this happen to them before?

I once ordered a chicken biscuit from a fast food place. Told them no pickle. I got a biscuit, plain - no chicken. I took it back to the counter where they accused me of trying to scam them! They said that I must have eaten the chicken and wanted another piece! They told me to leave the restaurant. I left the rest of the meal on the counter.

I felt silly calling the bank to chargeback a $7.64 meal for a fast food place, but the CSR understood and did it for me.

To be serious, maybe they were out of stock on the other part and did a substitute. Probably not worth sending it back and being without RAM for another week or twelve.

I'm thinking that's probably the case.

Also, as for documentation, they sent me back a receipt for the RMA, so I do have physical proof that I have something different. If something happens with these sticks, I should have no problem getting another RMA issued. :thumbup1:

Nice mad. Happened to me; GPU fan died on me for my 9800GX2. Called and sent it back to EVGA for replacement/repair. They sent me a GTX 285 instead, apologizing that they didn't have any 9800GX2's anymore since that was discontinued.

It's actually pretty common. And you got the receipt so you're set.

And Jubei, I've seen a $5 chargeback for the price of a ticket so you're fine.

EVGA likes to do that. Usually they would send back a 275 for the GX2, instead of a 285, so you got a good deal.

Right now they would probably send you a 465 for a 285, and a 460 for a 275. Kinda makes me wish that my card would die.

Yea. eVGA has only sent me one upgrade ever (8800 GTX died so they sent back a 9800 GTX+), even though my first 9800 GTX+ also died. They sent me back the same card. Go figure.

I wish video cards would stop dying on me. It's getting really annoying.

it's called an upgrade

you should have some sort of invoice from the RMA, that shows what you got from them, which proves you own it...

IDK why you need to prove that though.

just keep the third stick, find out which two overclock the best.

They required that I send in a copy of the invoice with the sticks, so now that they're different, I was worried that they wouldn't take them back.

HOWEVER, they did infact send back an RMA receipt, so that's taken care of.

I know that ive posted bout this, but ill go ahead & mention it again. I had an issue w/ my old skool eVGA 9800gt video card. Sent it in & they upgraded me with a GTS 450. Im definitely not complaining @ all. In fact I was both joyful & laughin like the Joker (that happens everytime I get excited or somethin really funny happens).

Overall, keep the bloody triple channel kit. Think of it as a blessing. No computer company is really out to screw ya over. If they were, they wouldnt be in business. Also word of mouth can also be a blessing or the downfall. This just goes to show ya how much they really care bout your business.

what boggles my mind is when computer companies do try to screw people over.

XFX for example, went from holy grail of board partners to piece of crap all over a couple of bad RMAs, and a few very vocal people on forums.

So they could have replaced the card at a $40 loss, or lost 1000000 in sales.

truly mindboggling

Yeah I heard that a while back. I remember when them and EVGA were the kings of socket 775 and the Geforce 8 series. Until the 790i series then they just seemed to slip after that.

They started selling ATI cards and stopped branding motherboards. Now they're just eh.

I don't even think they support their motherboards anymore. So if it breaks, you're probably screwed.

well, that is true of any motherboard that is out of warranty really.

xfx boards only had a 1 year warranty anyways.
