To gank, or not to gank, that is the question.
Apparently, there is a strange dichotomy amongst game players in regards to the activity of ganking. As I am an old soul when it comes to gaming (and just plain old), I have been around since the beginning of Player versus Player, especially as it pertains to MMOs. Just wanted eGOs opinion.
Per the Urban dictionary:
1. Ganking
It is a word commonly used in online video games, usually used in an MMORPG. Ganking is the process in which a group of characters gang up on one or more players that do not have a chance to defend themselves, Or when one high level player does the same action to a player way below his or her own level
For all intents and purposes, and for the sake of this post, I will consider ganking attacking someone far below in level. That flagged level 10 you happen to ride by on your level 85. That group of questing lowbies your elite group flies over. One shot and their dead. No chance of them attacking back. Or, it might take 2 shots, but their counter-attacks can't hurt you anyway.
Very few MMOs deal with PvP the same way. World of Tanks for instance does not allow a high level 7 massive armored tank to attack a smaller level 2. World of Warcraft allows the community to dole out punishment on their PvP servers by players asking for help.
What is the eGO community take on ganking? Are the majority of users up for bullying (yes it's a game, but the activity of picking on the weak / smaller started long, long ago) as it is part of the game? Or do you believe more in a chivalrous turn at PvP and attack only those that can properly defend themselves? (Ambushing a similar level character is not ganking).
Also, do you think a penalty should come into play for attacking or constantly camping lower level characters?
What do you think?
