Question to the rules

Hello,
i have a question belonging to the rules refering to the names of the players. A player with the nick "penis" is asked to change his name because of the obviously sexual context. But a player with the name "Führer Adolf Hitler" is tolerated... i cannot really understand. When i asked an admin who was on at that time he only asked me if he did an "forbidden" (referring to ego-rules)spray. And indeed he sprayed the famous red/white with the black cross in the mid( Hakenkreuz).He only was asked to remove this spray but not his name...Maybe because i am german its bit different feeling than for others, but i found a statement for such cases:

"yes, but someone with a name like Adolf Hitler or SS-Führer is usually not Hitler or Führer... That does not OK the name! "

So just for me to know, does that depend on the view of the admin, or is there a clear rule which does not tolerate those names? That special guy even started to argue that those signs already exsited in the older celtic culture...blabla... nothing to do with racism to his mind etc...
ONE reason for joining eGO was that these servers here are free of that "Nazi-talks" which often find place in german servers... and those fascistic recruiters always use these silly arguments. I thought that eGO servers were the wrong platform to show out those attitudes...

Who (which admin...)can be asked to kick those guys if they dont want to change their nicks, IF its up to the admins view...?

I am pretty strict with that and have 0 tolerance for this kind of ppl on our servers.. so if I see any nazi spray or nazi name on our servers I ask the player to change it immediately and if he doesn't do it we all know what follows.. ^^
I know some other admins treat this differently since there is no clear rule regarding nazi stuff. Also there is no definition given when nazi related names/sprays actually turn into racist offence so I guess that's up to the present admin and his own view on this.

But be sure that when I am on the server there will be no tolerance for these things.

Adolf Hitler is a man of history who lead an army for what he thought was right. Although his mind was skewed and his morales off he was still a man leading an army. This is a World War II game also so you would expect that kind of name. Also they are not supporting Hitler's views and ideas by useing his name in a historical fashion. Unless the person were to say things that showed they did this or in anyway showed they supported his beliefs they have done nothing wrong.

Although the Nazi sign was just his calling card it does show a hint of support and it still has a bad feeling in many people today and that is why he was asked to remove it.

Its a bit sad that the rules devide into racist offence and nazistuff. I mean "penis" is if u want as well only an anatomical definition of a humans bodypart (like nose, ear, arm....) and no sexual offence... But who am i I to bring up a discussion about server rules...just important for me to know how the rules are meant... in things belonging to "foule language" all admins have the same kind of handling, they also have it with "drugnames" and sexual stuff. It seems like "one face to the customer" which did a pretty professional impression to me. Therefore i am just wondering about that special case and still do...For what reason is "penis" forbidden, every 13 year old boy should alreaday know about it and it doesnt discriminate anybody but i can understand if its just because that server rule... If "Adolf Hitler" isnt racist...well what the he** DoD:S would be based on, if the americans tolrated the attitude this name represents? Whatever, I got the message and I`ll find a way to deal with it.

I joined eGO because I wanted to play the game in an environment where I could get my young nephews to play, without worrying about some uninformed 15 yr old shooting his mouth off about Hitler.
Gooroo, you should be a little irritated, I saw that player and his spray. There was a swastika in it, I thought.
You'll notice in DoD there are no Swastikas, just crosses. From what I understand, that cross is still used today. It means "German", just like a maple leaf in a circle means "Canadian". Or a white star in a blue circle means "American".
My point is: The guy's spray was Nazi, not German. There's a difference.
Also, the guy's name was "Führer Adolf Hitler", not "Adolf Hitler SUX!!!".
Also the guy was spamming the mic a bit about the ole' "Third Reich"...

If you ask me he should've been banned. I've got an open mind about this kind of thing (can't deny history), but any kind of Hitler or Nazi adoration goes a little too far don't you guys think?

I'm Polish, and I tend to let this stuff pass. I just don't care what name a person has, unless it is vulgar. Though, the second someone with that type of name does something stupid, be it a spray or saying, I will "crack skulls".

As said, being a WWII shooter, it's bound to happen. A lot of people have names like that, and a lot of people don't really care about it. If someone on the server were to object, I would more than gladly take care of it. If there is no issue for them, I generally let things slide till that person slips up.

I think if the person was not openly supporting the views of Hitler or the view of hatred in a certain people then it is ok. People can use the name from a historical point and not mean harm.

I agree with you Youcantseeme. I am not shure if i could point out the reason for my confusion. Seems not easy to explain in english, but i`ll do a last try:
I wouldnt have any problem with someone who only uses a name like "Führer Adolf Hitler" and doesnt show up those nazi-contaminated opinions in chat or sprays just as well as somone who uses the name "Penis" without using dirt language or discriminating sexistic statements. EITHER both names are tolerated OR both have to change their name! That would be a comprehensible handling of the rules, even though i couldnt find anything about the last point in the rules
1. Follow the Rules!
2. No Foul, Degrading, or Racist Remarks allowed
3. Do Not Block
4. No Disrespectful Sprays are Allowed
5. No Cheating, Cheat Scripts, Barrier Jumping, Map Exploits or Hacks Of ANY Kind
6. No Arguing with or Impersonating an Admin
7. Do Not Disrupt The Server In Any Way
8. Support the Admins And Other Community Members
9. Use Only One Name While Gaming Here
10. DO NOT PESTER ADMINS

By watching admins` work its obviously that drug and sex-things also belong to the rules even if this is not especially mentioned.
The simple usage of the name "Führer Adolf Hitler" doesnt proof a racist mind behind that. Agree. Just as less "Penis" is something dirt or offensive thing...its just a part of the body as well as A.Hitler is with great regret part of the history...

That specific "Hitler-guy" would have been kicked sooner or later cause he couldnt held back his opinions just as mercer already mentioned and uses those forbidden sprays..
I am calm enough to deal with both names (if its only the name) its just to help me understand the admins work of the clan i just joined, to become a feeling for the soul of eGO or however i could express what i mean.

Maybe ask an involved jew how it would feel to play with someone like "KZ-Executor" (hey, those guys existed in WWII for real, so what^^...) or ANYbody how it would feel with a name like...dunno.."Head", "Nose" or even "acromastium" (for not to say the faux.pas-word nipple...) I hope u get it now what the point of my irritation is... The application of double standards may be the saying for that in english...I can agree with all of your opinions here so far, its just that a consistent treatment of the server rules (written or unwritten)would facilitate compliance with that regulations.

i think letting some of the names go is letting the rules off a bit, don't you?

Well name like Hitler is quite common. I personally don't mind since it is a world war 2 game. But sexual content i do not allow.

I try not to be too too strict because it's a M rated game afterall. Having some good rules just show that we are serious about keeping our server clean and fun.

I think I agree with YouCantSeeMe. This is a WWII game, and yes, those names are to be expected. However, if they were to present support for the Nazi's beliefs (aka spraying a swastika, or saying racial slurs) I would take care of it immediately. As Amaranthuse said, this is rated M. M for Mature, so people are expected to act that way. If they do not do that, we need to show them a little "eGO muscle".

There was an excellent contest a ban thread that dealt with this. I do, in fact, tolerate things like "Hitler" and "Furher" when I admin a server, even though I am jewish. I let them stay there as long as they keep their mouth shut and focus on the game. If somebody says like "I hate Jews" I give them one and ONLY one warning, if they ask why, or retaliate, they are immidiately kicked, if they come back and continue, a week ban and thread on the Request Ban forum. While if they say "All Jews should die because they suck" (someone's said that to me once) they get an immediate, no-hesitation ban. If somebody thinks there's something they don't like about my policy, deal with it.

Names as such certainly run a fine line. Sprays are also another issue. Perhaps if people would not utilize above names and sprays, there would never be a problem. I mean, Hitler and the Third Reich can be very dear to some people's hearts while others despise them. Valve made this game to reenact essentially a World War II battle field with authentic weapons. They left out many of the things that were/are controversial for a reason, so I think for players to bring them in is unnecessary. I think it will bring about fewer problems if these people are just politely asked to remove such things to prevent further conflicts among other players. If players refuse to comply with the requests of the admins, it should result in a kick. If players continue to come back to just annoy players and admins, I believe the punishment should result in a ban. This is just my opinion on the matter. I may have missed something that was said along the way, but hopefully not.
