I had to choose other, as I was forced into steam when Day of Defeat updated to the source engine and the only way to play it was thru steam. If they hadn't done that, I would not be using steam today.

My friend's dad used it when it just came out. I got to play Half: Life 2 for the first time. :)

Back when I was about 11 or 12, my dad gave me his old version of Half-Life, which I loved so much. Did some research, found out there was a second one, and after he finished playing, he gave it to me on his steam account. So I later got my own with a couple of games on that, but when my dad bought HL2, it came with CS:S as a bonus so I stick to his account most of the time.

I'd kinda say option 1, and "other".

On my birthday 2008 I got Portal, which used Steam. But I didn't take any notice of it, I didn't even know what Steam did, I just knew it as "that program that installed itself with Portal". Then this one time the next November I heard about Garry's Mod, and for some bizarre reason Gmod 9 ran on my PC despite the fact that I only owned Portal. And then I was like "Hey, look, this uses Steam again!" and because it was multiplayer, I made friends on it and I realised what Steam was actually for and now I buy tons of games on it.

I played Half Life, CS 1.6, and Day of Defeat 1.3 before Steam rolled out. I've been using Steam since it got released and all those games were consolidated there. This makes me feel like an old fart.

Well, when I started gaming the first game I bought was cs 1.6 and I played it on some old steam account of mine for a couple of years as demon hunter the silent death. Oh those good old times! I used to love css back then, but luckily I found the light. Dod:s :P

I created my account last 2 years and never use it.But then when i bought CS:S it uses steam and use my account that never been used before.

Bought Half Life 2 a couple weeks after launch, and had to activate it via Steam. That's when I first started using it -- my Steam profile reports December 6, 2004.

Had $25 to spend and couldnt make up my mind as to what game I wanted. I then noticed an orange case and picked it up and saw 2 games for the price of 1. I had heard of half life but not TF2 and decided to take that one. Took it home installed and hooked on tf2 from then on.

my brother had steam and i used to play l4d with a friend all the time on it
