Question about Monitors

Just a simple question:

Would a flat-screen monitor improve my games' performance?

Currently, I have one of those old monitors with that big pump in the back, got my graphics card Nvidia GTS 450 which uses DVI format... my old monitor doesn't so I could plug it in with the VGA-to-DVI thingy... Anyway, I was wondering if I could improve my games' graphics and performance with a DVI Monitor -Though I'm just looking for performance-. I can run BF3 and MW3 perfectly, but i noticed a slower rate of FPS in GTA IV.

I probably even explained all that wrong.

I want better gaming performance, i'm fine with graphics but... would there be any difference between my current VGA monitor and a DVI one?

Performance is nearly identical, but DVI is digital rather than analog, so it looks a lot more crisp. Upgrading your monitor will cause your performance to drop, as your resolution will most likely be bigger than a CRT monitor. 1920x1080 is 1080p, which is pretty standard on today's market. That would likely kill performance though.

Yes and no. It could, actually, worsen them depending on the size. The larger the screen, the more graphic intensive the game becomes. That's why you see video card reviews and game reviews over a variety of resolutions: the higher the resolution, the more graphic intensive, the lower FPS given. However, the lower the resolution, the worse the game looks (or the more bunched up it becomes). What it can do is improve the visual gameplay for you so you can play better. And by the description in your post, you're using a CRT monitor.

My recommendation: Get an LCD monitor. Newer monitors today not only provide a much higher resolution, they would be using either DVI or HDMI for the graphical input slot, instead of the older VGA that you're stuck on. Your statement about running BF3 and MW3 versus GTA IV doesn't help us as you don't provide any valid background information. Are you running all the games at the same resolution? Same graphic settings? Is it lower in GTA IV on a CRT monitor versus LCD? Same performance on a CRT monitor as an LCD monitor for BF3/MW3? Some games just run at a lower fps because they're more graphic intensive, or the video card drivers aren't as optimized for them as they are for other games. I.e. Dual video cards ran at a lower FPS than single video cards for some games because the newer GPU drivers weren't optimized correctly for them.

Well, I can run BF3 and MW3 with Medium settings, High Textures -Default settings the game had given me since the very first day I played it- 1024 x 768 resolution, GTA IV runs with Medium Settings and ran decently with 1024 x 768 but I switched it to 800 x 600 and it's nearly the same.

I'm not quite interested in graphics, as long as they look decent, but I want performance, to play as if I was running the games in a console.

Upgrading your video card and monitor would do that. Consoles only run at 30 fps, so that's pretty easy to maintain. Then again, it depends on what CPU you're using too.
