Brainstorm TF2

I totally agree with Wize. We need a division meeting soon.

And I really like Fraurrix's idea of putting some custom maps up on the events server. For one we can have more maps for events and two we can then use the maps that we use already for events for actual tf2. I'm not sure if that is possible though.

I'm certain there is going to be a great deal of fallout concerning recent events and our "family" really needs to come together and sort all this out. It's hard wanting to bring more people in when things are as shaky as they've been. I enjoy being here and it's really the first official time I've been part of a gaming community and would hate to have it soured by events that could have been avoided.

I completely agree. It's almost like my thoughts were written out for me.

I know CSS division got a plugin to get our other servers known better by the pubs. I don't know if it could work on TF2 but it is a source game so I bet it could work.

Thats a screenshot from what it looks like in CSS, It will randomly pop up with a different server and have you type !servers to see what other servers we have. Then you press like 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. to hop to different servers then F1 to confirm it. This might help the pups see the other server especially because the servers moved.

This is a great suggestion. It'll tell pubs that Mesa has moved especially, and 2Fort has a lot of new people every so often and they may go on and try the other maps.

Things that don't work

Come to our server, for each hour you play u get a scrap, or u get some cashino points, or random people get promoted because they showed up. Sure people will show up, but they'll show up to get something rather than to play.

Take the promotion thingy for example. I was in mesa server with couple of other people, played there for a bit, it wasn't filling so ended up going to Valve Map server. Sometime in between promotion news hits and Blackmesa is full within 30 minutes. In a sense it worked but the moment those promotion were announced, people started leaving. At the end of the round, very few of us were left playing. Point being people didn't come there to play and have fun but to get something else.

Things that work

*snip*We can do a bounty type thing on our server... *snip*

This one works great, I know because I participated in Frisky hunt thingy. The reward wasn't great...and was totally not worth the effort. But anyone who participated did it soly for fun not because they wanted a hat out of it. I didn't win but at the end I ended up knowing Frisky, Ludi, and few other who were involved in that bounty game...and most of all I had fun.

point being luring people with insensitive like "come play to get a hat/promotion" won't do good in long run. The motto should be "come play to have fun....items are just a plus".

P.S. the new steam announcement about "Kevi hanging out on Mesa and in Vent Room 2! Come join him!" was great. The server was full instantly, I had lots of fun killing Kevi (and I'm sure he had fun killing me too). I believe the server still has people playing. Point being people joined there to get together and have fun rather than to get items and leave. We need more of these.

In other news, youtube the eGO exclusive events? I'm sure people would love to see those "spy hides and pyro finds" or "heavy in middle of a bridge and scout try to cross it" type of videos. It'll also promote TF2 division and will be good on long run.

people will join to have fun.

How about we make a giant Vudu doll (Vudu, not Voodoo), and force them to join us? :D

I call spelling fail.

I agree 100% with you. There has been too much grief in just short time and we should get a meeting going and get ideas about how we can mend this. I think a Saturday would do just great for that. amen wize.

Thread created regarding this meeting.

As far as ideas for improving TF2?

Idle at night when no one's on, and then follow that up with playing on the server for a half hour when you wake up. If you get a server full in the morning, it's got a good chance of staying full all day (especially 2fort).

And have faith that you can fill a server. Send messages to your friends on steam, and hop in vent and bug people until they join you (well, there's a point where you should stop bugging them. I'll trust you mature people to know when that is). The more popular you get a server, the easier it'll fill.

And recruit regulars!

And I agree that the event server should be used for some of these ideas (mods, etc) when events are not going on.

(Aside: Seeing as I don't know the processing power of the server box we use to host 2Fort, Valvemaps, Blackmesa and the Event server, it may not work to try and have the event server full at the same time as the other three servers mentioned).

(Also, no, I didn't forget foundry, but to my belief it is hosted elsewhere)

If you are a TF2 mapper pm me. I have a great mod idea which no one has done and sorted out some issues but I need mapping help!

I think a server with the rtd mod would be fun & probably get some new people on the servers, maybe some events that non eGO members could join might attract new members also.

What if we had an official sticky thread for members to make sports bets with their TF2 items?

I've done it with some of my friends and it's fun.

Host competetive events for pubs to compete and win stuff in, maybe something like a heavy boxing competition, that will get us some reputation.

I will have one of the advisors make a list of all the ideas and we can decide as a group and go from there. Keep those suggestions coming.

I'm still new when it comes to knowing the mods out there for tf2 so perhaps checking out gametracker and seeing what the top rated servers are running to get an idea on what the hot ticket items are right now.

Wow, these are awesome ideas - tough decision on who to give the hat to, now! :P

If anyone else has anything to add be sure to reply, and I'll probably pick someone this weekend. It's good to know I'm not the only one who feels the same way about our division, and also that there are others who will work hard to keep us going.

Peace out, bros.

So... does anyone know if we're going to have a division meeting soon?

Cause I think we should.

I think regulars is what makes a server great. After tf2 went f2p we lost A LOT of regulars. Many of those regulars were very social and kept the server going. We need more people like that, ill do my best to play and talk lots in the near future.

Great feedback - I sent the winners (yes, I picked two) a PM with details.
