Is it possible to edit the map at all? If so, It would be nice not to get mowed down or sniped right as you spawn (Allies)

I realize it's supposed to be hard and like the the beaches of normandy, but it's hard to play on a map where you your chance of getting out of spawn is like 15%

I'm with shane of this one. i don't play strand for that reason and a few others. I like a lot of contact with enemies, but not so much that i can't get out of spawn. In the same way, i don't want to be like the axis side is, held up in a fort where basically no one can kill you. The map bores/irritates me when it comes to this. If we were to restrict some of the classes (MG) down to 1, then it would be easier. And yes i understand that with a good team you can win on allies. Most of the time i've been on there, i haven't seen it happen. usually a pub will snatch up the mg on axis and just mow down the allies.

Also like shane said. if we could possibly modify the map just slightly, to give the allies more cover in their spawn, then i feel it would be more enjoyable. Most likely i've complained more than helped on this post lol but i felt like sharing my opinion on the matter.

Stop team stacking, utilize allied team work, possibly SPAWN WITH EXPLOSIVES (That'd be fair as contrast to other maps with explosives, since the explosives are easier to get to on other bomb defuse maps)..

Also.. How would one go about enforcing what eGO decides is "team work"? Just curious as the idea itself seems impossible, people play as they play even though DoD is a "Team based" game by definition by the developers.. Hmm..

k so anyway.

I play strand a lot lately and unless you're a good rifleman and know the spots to hide and get kills, you'll get owned time and time again with no real chance. I think that some sort of immediate LIMITED spawn protection is order. Noobs will continuously rage quit, or jump to axis.

I STRONGLY dislike automated team evening as it is unnecessary and promotes an idea such as we could care less what weapon you use or what side you prefer, as long as the teams are even..

Although on strand only team automated evening is a GOOD IDEA. Teams go from even to 10 against 5 or 6 way to fast and way to easily. No one wants to keep getting screwed up in spawn, or on the axis when the snipers and MG's suck.

Also, the ideology that "Allies get spawn camped so axis can get messed up at spawn too" is dumb. It just enrages people into hypocrisy. This is a GAME, and getting spawn killed on axis or allies sucks. We aren't on the beaches of Normandy, thank god. We're playing day of defeat. This should be enjoyable, not enrage half the people joining.. Changes are in order.

Well as far as the following goes I will respond to each 1 at a time.
Nothing, it is perfect! <---This is sometimes a true statement but more time it's not.

Stop Axis team stacking. As far as this statement there are a lot of times when the Allies dominate the axis. Luiz , TechDre, BigBang, Wanderer, World, Nurse, Toe Cutter, Ben Affleck, S@ik, Feruk, 12 Tone Rooster, Racing88 etc. all tend to be allied players who are totally awesome as allies & are great team leaders. Typically when any of the above are on in any combination the allies team roles over axis.

Make Allies use more teamwork. How can we actually enforce this? How do you plan to do this?

Automated team switching and the like is not the answer. I do not play Charlie much so it might be better to ask this question to the players that do, but when have I ever kept silent due to lack of knowledge?

My guess is that DoD:S players that play Strand do it for reasons that differ from players of other maps such as Ava and Donner.
Charlie game play is removed from the norm of DoD:S. I am not saying that everyone who plays Charlie/Strand do it for a "historical feel" or to get points or high K:D ratios, but when I am there I do see the same people playing on the same sides. So my guess is that the people who do play for those reasons tend to gravitate to a map like that one.

That in mind the only way I see improving it without losing pubs would be to "PROMOTE" teamwork. There is no way to mandate teamwork that would not result in people leaving the server, but having eGOs and eGs and es on the server playing on Allied work toward getting people to communicate and play as a team is a good idea.

Suggestion
I have wondered how our servers, especially this one would do it they were switched to all talk and we promoted the use of our Ventrilo server for teams. There are pitfalls with this yes, but I believe it would be worth a try as we not only promote working in a unit, but we get public members into our Ventrilo server chatting with members.

To this end maybe we could setup a trial run for something like this where we setup a few vent rooms for Charlie/Strand. Members playing on the server would then let players know that we have vent rooms setup for it and give them the info. It would be easy to add the Vent server info to the server messages. It would give it more of an "epic" feel in my opinion. Charging up a beach with with your team in Vent, I think some pubbers would dig that. Just a thought.

That would be applicable to me. Strand is definitely a different animal from Ava/Donner, not just because of the way its laid out (uber skewed in Axis' favor), but doubly so because it's a bomb-objective map.

When I'm in a "try hard" mood, I'll jump into Strand, join Allies, and basically see if we can get some objectives blown up. The process itself is much more frustrating, since if you're on a team that doesn't communicate, chances are you're going to get decimated. However, the satisfaction gleaned when you win on Allies is also so much more than when you win on Ava/Donner.

I voted for "more communication/teamwork". The big question is how do we achieve that (beyond encouraging it yourself in-game of course)?

It is a very rage quit inducing map at times, but I think I go there for the "historic" feel. I usually play on Wermacht, but I try to be more mobile/active and not camp so much. That said, I think the best times I have had on the map are when I have been on Allies. The worst times I have had on the map have also been on Allies.

I believe teamwork is the answer. If you are Allies and you do not have good snipers/rocket, you will get mowed down over and over. Communication allows the snipers or rocket to know where to look for the MGs or German snipers.

Of course, there is no way to force teamwork. Anyway to encourage it would be great. I like Sumac's idea of having some Vent channels for each side. The problem is that a lot of players don't communicate in-game, so I don't think they would even go to Vent, much less communicate. It is a great idea to explore, though.

Sumac's post was far too long to quote, so i left it out. I'm agreeing with everything he just said. that sounds like a brilliant idea

I think its good as is. I dont play too much but when I do I enjoy playing allies. I feel like its becomes more than just an fps run and gun, you're on a mission and with good teamwork you can move up the beach and blow up the objectives. It ranked in the 40s and that's good right? so why change it. I still dont understrand;) what good the ranking syetem does.

Charlie a.k.a Strand is a really fun map. I think it is good the way it is but if you made it so that 44 members can join the server and the axis team can only be half the allied team i.e. Allied: 16, Axis: 8. It would be more fun to play and even harder for axis! Maybe you can consider this idea.

I think the lack of teamwork/communication on the Allies' side disadvantages them more than the lack of numbers. I've seen many an instance where the Allies (sometimes even with lower numbers) have rolled the Axis by simply applying good teamwork and communication on Strand.

I think we should make allies use more teamwork and Stop Axis from stacking. :glare:

its all up to team work if allies play as a team they will win its not even that hard so i will say we should not do anything that map. :)

also if allies have good sniper?s that will help u get out of beach

This ones a tad off the wall but bear with me.

Edit the map to include a small spawn area for allies in the trench on the north end or in the field. This is where the "paratroopers" enter the area to take the axis from behind. The axis would have to watch their back at least. Leave all of the explosives on the beach where they are. The "paratroopers" are only there to take some of the pressure off of the main force which is attacking from the beach.

Strand is one of my favorite maps.I almost always play axis.Playing on allies somtimes can get frustrating, like getting killed right after spawning or lack of team work.In my opinion, more team work, and some how giving the allies a bit more advantage would help.Maybe altering the map like placing more objects on the beach so allies have more cover from incoming fire or something along those lines.Just a thought :)

I vote other.

I want more Allies then Axis to make it more historical. On D-Day they were not expecting an attack. Strand tends to always be a curb stomp for Axis by pinning Allies into spawn.

Also you can not prevent a protection for spawning on the Allies side because that is what really happened. A lot of people never made it off the boat....

I say don't change it, It's doing great and is supported with a awesome pubber base, The people that play strand play it for either a challenge or just like, the different style map it is. Adding anything could potentially hurt this servers success, It's moved up in the rankings over time all by it's self, Not by us trying to "fix it". And I'm very opposed to messing with a map that's 2nd in the DoD:S Division
