What can we do to improve Strand?

Well the problem is, not numbers.. I've seen a allied team be down 3 players and win every round. And half of the votes if not more then half are members that are not regulars on Strand.

I play Strand when I want a challenge.
That's what I like about it as compared to Ava or Donner. It's a true test of the what makes a team win in this kind of battle/map.
Aggressiveness, teamwork and communication are key in wnning and if either team has this, they can rule the day. I've played on Strand and seen the Allies do well on many occasions simply because they used those key factors well, even when the Axis team have more talented players.
One thing perhaps you could consider if you'd like to alter the map to give the Allies a chance is make the majority of the Axis, spawn a tiny bit further away from the frontline trenches.
Example:
At the beginning of the round, Axis spawnpoints would be where the objectives are. No Axis troop would spawn in the trenches. Maybe as close as the room next to the radio tower.
At least it'll give the Allies a slight chance to lay the explosives to blow the first charges on the sandy areas on the beach, etc.
That's the best I could think of. Other than that, really it's just a matter of using those factors I listed which really makes the difference. Which really means... make the Allies use more teamwork.

It'd be kinda cool if we could see some Naval bombardment landing on top of Axis positions every so often so that it'd be more realistic, lol. Afterall, it did happen on D-day where destroyers were bombarding some Axis bunkers/positions. But even I know that it's highly unlikely to see that happening in the server, lol.

As someone who worked with custom maps for many years, the map CAN be edited, but that's dangerous waters because many people already have this version of the map, and being forced to download a new copy might just kill the server off entirely. But if it wouldn't, the best option would be advancing spawns. I don't know if those exist in source, or were just a creature of the original DoD (yeah... I'm dating myself here, bleh), but on an older version of this map, once the Allies secured the beach, they spawned past it.
Alternatively, intentionally unbalancing the teams numerically might work as well, but I'm not sure it would accomplish much. There are plenty of times when the Allies ARE winning. Is it as often as the Axis, no... but it's certainly possible.

After a refresh of my memory with Strand, i found that the allies do win a whole lot. I'm changing my view on this and agreeing completely with Greenlight on this one
The map is a blast and it's very possible to get off the beach if you just have a leader directing where everyone should go, and yelling "Get off the beach" A LOT
I agree Artimus however YELLING isn't called for.....lol!

This can be done just give me the word an I can do this. I can make it where you sky dive in the beach expand the map add boats to pull up drop you off etc but however its soulful up to the higher ups.

Editing the map, forcing players to do as you see fit or removing their weapons are all the wrong answers.
If you edit the map you will lose a ton of players in the short-term for sure but likely in the long-term.
Encouraging them to move up is how it should be done, nothing should be by force. And there should definitely not be a punishment for players not playing the way you feel is best.

Hey Luggz,
I'm always up for new maps! I know Dutchoper is working on several maps as well and I'm always encouraged to find members who can and will take the initiative to make new maps.
I'd love to see what you have, your ideas, and so on. Also, I think its safe to say that there is no guarantee that the map will be used on one of our 24/7 servers, however, that's not to say that we won't use it for certain events and look towards you in the future. Also, remember that the quality of the map must be up to par with the rest of the maps we showcase on our servers.
With all that said, if you're still interested, I'm most definitely looking forward to seeing what you can do.

I say the Allies just need better teamwork....it's easy to get moved down when no one is listening or has an objective. I mean you are gonna always have your "cowboy" (someone who goes away from what the group wants to do), but for the most part when the Allies work as a team, they tend to be victorious, more times than not.
I saw someone talking about new maps! Before I joined eGo, I used to play (and still play) from time to time on UKCS's Mega Servers where they change maps. They use maps like dod_widenthal and dod_peleiu. It would be nice to be able to play some of those maps and on a server where the map can change. I generally don't play Avalanche and Anzio; Avalanche, cause I burned out on it from years ago and Anzio, I'm just not familiar with.

Strand is almost perfect as it is. It is possible to add some objects for cover in the beaches, but I think that's the only improvement that doesn't affect the overall gameplay.
For the allies to win the map, they have to get out the beaches in the first 1.5 mins [for this, snipers, rocket, and MGs have to suppress the axis players in the bunkers and the middle.]
Likewise, for the axis to win, they have to either delay the allies from getting out of the beaches, or defending the sites till the end.
I keep alternating between, ava, Strand and sometimes donner or kalt depending if there's people playing or not. Strand is just different than the other maps [like flash where both sides have equal initial advantage. ]
The best thing that worked for team cooperation is just to have a few players talking about enemy movements or locations, without forcing it of course. I know a lot of players won't talk easily [I always text in the chat option, so i never talked. ]

I think that Strand is fine, just like in other maps, you'll get times when one team is on a roll. People just get upset with how the Axis have a huge advantage by being able to pin the Allied advance. However, this is normally easily counterable with a few good snipers who can keep the bunkers clear. And after the first few minutes, if the snipers have done their job, the bunkers will pretty much stay clear with the odd sole from Axis venturing there to basically die from a sniper or what not.

You cannot MANDATE teamwork in a pub or no one will come in to play. As long as people are communicating, that team will be successful. I've been on plenty of times over the past 6 years and have seen Axis teams get torn apart because the Allies are communicating properly I.E. calling out snipers for their snipers/rockets to take out and MG's to pin down, using proper grenade and smoke techniques and even distracting them Axis with what seems to be a big push up Field or through the right bunker to Cow88/BG. I can't tell you how many times I've been on Axis and someone yells over the mic "THERE ARE A BUNCH OF ALLIES RUSHING FIELD!!!" and as I look at my map I see half my team (mostly from the center of the map) rush over to the field leaving the middle completely exposed. Just some of my input and long time experience with the map

Limit axis weapon classes
I play almost 100% Strand on eGO, and the map is one of my 5 favorites. However, the map is very boring for my play style if axis has too many good players playing sniper and mg and earlier I usually left the game if so (now I stay on longer if there is admin shortage).
My suggestion is one linked to the reason for me not (almost) playing Ava at ego, it would benefit from some correction of the axis advantage (better map positions and better guns). For Ava I always go to UKCS as their version of german team has only 1 mg and 1 sniper, makes it more even and more fun. I would enjoy something similar at Strand (and also Ava).

Simple (perhaps), give allies more smoke nades. Even if you have to also give more smoke to axis it would still help Allies getting off the beach. Maybe give two smoke nades to each class b/c how many people use assault class on Strand?
