M1 Garand Even Worse Than M1911?

Objection! I can still use all the classes and get a positive k/d.

Im sure you could use all classes, but you do not. Therefore, this positive KDR you talk about has yet to be seen.

Thompson Submachine Gun 1.25 322
Mauser Karbiner k98 Sniper Rifle 1.50 20
MG42 Machine Gun 1.20 16
U.S. Grenade 1.00 14
Butt Stock Hit 3.00 11
German Grenade 1.00 6
MP44 Assault Rifle 1.35 4
MP40 Machine Pistol 1.25 4
Colt .45 model 1911 1.60 4
U.S. Issue Knife 3.00 4
Panzerschreck 2.25 3
Bazooka 2.25 3
Pistol c96 1.50 2
Spade Entrenchment Tool 3.00 1
M1 Garand Rifle 1.30 1
Mauser Kar 98k 1.30 1

Above is your weapon usage from the past 2 weeks, followed by each weapon's KDR and amount of kills, respectively. You do not use rifles at all, so I don't know how you can claim to have strong KDR's with them. I know people who have 10 total kills and 1 death as a rifle. This makes their rifle KDR 10:1, but means nothing.

The assault class made me more aware of my surroundings and a quick reaction time so it improved mine.

Are you sure its the assault class, or just the fact that you have a total connection time of over 1200 hours on eGO servers alone? I would argue that you would have situational awareness after that much gameplay regardless of the weapon used.

If used effectively you can out best the other classes.

I would hardly call your KDR of 1.24 with 68,000 kills out-besting all other classes. This isn't completely fair because the way you worded your quote above. You said "you" can out-best any other class, and not "I", leaving it open ended for any Thompson fanatic, but I think my point is made regardless.

Objection overruled.

I'm sorry Dutch, but damn blue pwned you so hard right here.

I reccomend learning the K98 first, both guns have the same accuracy and the K98 is slighty easier since you only need to hit them once (most of the time). Once you get good with the K98 switch over to the garand and treat it the same way, youll find that you hit as much as you do with the K98 and might even get a few kills, from then on its about learning to strafe and make yourself hard to hit, thats the hardest part but what makes the garand truly terrifying in the right hands.

Listen to Brain, he knows all!!!

(even though I didn't read a single word you wrote.)

Generally good advice here, personally I dont aim for the head with the garand I go for two quick center mass shots b/c it takes me too long to aim for head consistently. Also, I found that learning the garand was easier than the Kar, a weapon I still struggle with.

I also think the debate between rifle and assault is a useless and endless one. Everyone should know how to use all weapons (never know what you might find on the battlefield) and use the one they like the best. For me a skilled KAR player is the most difficult to take down.

If you want to improve skill with the rifles, forget about points to start with because you will lose many (especially with the k98). Second, NEVER use assault class, as it makes your other senses and skills dull.

Have to agreed with blue about this. If you want raise your skills dont use assault class. Like most of ppls calling that class as (noobtube) you dont need any kinda skills using that class and allways getting those random headshot.

Brain also makes it sound like the k98 is easier to use, which is not the case for any of the maps that eGO hosts. That may or may not have been his intention, but I thought it useful to point out the fact that you will die more often with a k98 on close range maps like the ones eGO hosts.

Might not be the case with everyone but i sure do find smaller maps help the K98 more than the garand, in places that restrict movement such as doorways the the K98 kills assualts before they can even get a shot off, no matter how close they are to you, the garand however you have to rely on either a headshot or slow reactions in the enemy, so generally when i rifle i go to bottlenecks with the K98 and more open ground where i can strafe and keep distance with the garand. A good example of both of these is the mid flag of anzio for the K98 and on the bridge of the same map for the garand.

And as for dutch, he could of been an amazing player had he put the effort in to learn the rifle, not sure what his reason for not trying other guns out is, and if its "fun" you're missing out on most of the game's fun.

You should find the logs with Flash....oh wait

2 weeks can not sum up my 1,860 and you said 1,200? Is that not counting my Flash hours?

Most of that time was the assault class so it is true. I have only had the internet for a little over 2 years. Never gamed online before so it kinda went hand to hand.

I agree on the wording's fault because my grammar sucks. Should have been me out besting other classes. Also that 1.24 k/d/r is due to me always rushing and being everywhere. Can't stand being in the back or baiting others for a kill. Flash taught me that.

oh and I double objection

He may have won this battle, but not the war!

You would be surprised how many headshots I have with the Thompson. Its kinda not that high.

Its because I hate playing games competitively. I prefer running and gunning. Too many games out there for me to stick to just one game all the time.

P.S I just got home from college

I will not respond to the majority of your post, as I believe my argument stands well on its own. I will ask why your kills per minute is significantly lower than mine if you do indeed rush often, like you say. I would point out that rushing does not guarantee a low KDR and the two are very loosely related, if at all.

I am starting to get a hang of it, I used the console comands to Activate bots using bot x3 and then putting, bot_spazout 500 and bot_crouch 2 (or something like that). Once I hit my 100 kills (pick up the garand once the ammo runs out) I get on a random pub server to use the garand. Getting better yet not the best. I still prefer the garand in bfbc2.

Well as a rusher I always find everything. Be it an MG, sniper or Rocket so I tend to get picked off, but it makes everyone else aware of its position. My K/D use to be higher, but that was when I spent all my time on Flash, so when it went down so did everything, because I never really cared about the other maps and did not get to know them. Either they were too open or they did not have many good choke points. the main factor is knowing were people usually go. New map, new faces, new tactics to understand the routes. I can also chalk it up to losing interest in DoDs since 90% of my friends left for other games and divisions or just disappearing off the face of the earth, so I do not spend the long hours I use to pump out. I could usually spend at least 3-4 hours each day, but that number has shrunk to 30 mins to an hour. Heck the only time I play is either when I have that "calling" or I feel like doing mad rushes with Rock n Roll blasting in my ears.

I still prefer the garand in bfbc2.

Same, I find it real easy to use and the rate of fire is awesome. Plus the Thompson and Flamethrower(Bc2 Vietnam) are awesome too.

 I usually suck with thompson, think the random 1 mile away headshots are missing from my DoD:s' script.

hahaha amen to this!

and I prefer the kar98 over the garand because I like to quick switch. But I've found that the garand is better 1v1 when against a kar98.

wow, you guys hijacked Fudge's thread hardcore. Practice is the key Fudge, but you have to practice in live servers, bots just aren't the same. Feel free to try new weapons in eGO servers, we don't care about your ranking or KDR, despite what you read in this thread.

The pistol you get with the M1 class on Allies IS actually better than the Garand, regardless of what anyone has told you.

lol, jk. Garand was the toughest weapon for me to learn to use tbh, and that's coming from someone who played 95% K98 for probably the first year that I played this game. It's different than the K98 on a lot of levels once you get basic rifle accuracy down, and I despised having to 2 shot things, especially in close quarters.

Like pretty much everyone has told you thus far, practice makes perfect, but it's not an easy gun to master. At the highest levels of competition there is nothing tougher to go against than a skilled M1 player though imo, along with the ridiculous support players presenting an equal challenge.

I would think that the #1 thing to learn when trying to use the M1 effectively would be shooting/moving at the same time. Strafe, 2-3 shots, strafe, 2-3 shots, advance, 2-3 shots, etc repeat. 3 shots is pushing it, 2 shots anywhere on a player kill, and you should frequently be aiming for the head, especially if you're playing against quality riflemen/snipers, but after basic rifle accuracy you have to constantly be moving and shooting with the Garand in order to use it well and not die constantly.

If you find yourself hating it in close quarters, and you like to be aggressive and push up for points, it's not the best weapon to do those things with. This game is like 47 years old, don't practice with a weapon for 6 months to get good with it, play it to have fun. :)

. For me a skilled KAR player is the most difficult to take down.

Agreed 100%! Those skilled with the kar98 and on top of that, the quick switch from rifle to pistol during reload are unbelievable ! I've started to get a hang of it and it's a blast.

I prefer the Karbiner 98, but when it comes to using the M1 Garand- My tip is to Strafe left and right in and out of cover, doesn't matter if your shots hit or not, as long as the Crosshair is on the guy.
