I'm a high school history teacher, and a part-time police officer (just a few shifts a month typically).

You can imagine his tactics when a student comes in late for 5th period WWII History...

Spetz: So...Jimmy...why were you late?
Jimmy: Uhh, 'cause I am.
Spetz: Insightful answer. Face the wall and put your hands behind your back Jimmy. You're now going to view the entire works of Shirley Temple, and after that, you will watch Orson Well's "Citizen Kane".
Jimmy: ....you're kidding right?
Spetz: I SAID AGAINST THE WALL! *Slams Jimmy against the wall, brings him to a desk, and chains his hands behind the seat*
****Spetz singing along to Shirley Temple****
~~~18 Hours Later~~~
Jimmy: NOOO! I CAN'T TAKE ANY MORE!! WHAT IS "ROSEBUD!!" JUST TELL ME, FOR GOD'S SAKE!
Spetz: I'm sorry, it's quite apparent that you didn't care about the History of World War Two, so I figured this might suit your interests a little better.."
In any case, I will be putting my application in for an Entry-Level Police Officer (City), within the next few weeks, when it comes out. The physical portion of the test will be no problem, but the mental stress of the in-depth background investigation will be a little nerve-racking. Not that I have anything to hide, but more or less they'll break you down to a point where you THINK you did something wrong...so, even if I didn't do what they're asking, I'll feel like it did lol.
hey zerg to be honest becoming a police officer in iowa isn't particularly hard what your grades in school dont really reflect your grade on the civil service exam theyre suppose to solely base their decision off the physical and written exam which to my knowledge is common sense and physically not that tough college education only gives you a bonus on your exam and a lil pay raise when you start (iowa guys iowa) and isnt required for the position... least that is what my understanding is if im wrong someone please correct me.. as far as choosing dude go w/ what you really wanna do in your heart if you wanna a graphics designer then do it personally id rather go to a job i love and get paid crappy than do someone i hate for a 3rd of the day if not longer and earn a halfway decent living at it
PD and tact team officer right here baby i know i listed what i wanted to do but i wanna be the marksman in particular idk always fancied that or in the entry team not the dumb guy w/ the shield but the guy after him
lol i could see Spetz teaching bout WW2
Spetz: Okay students today we will be learning about World War 2
Students: Aww
Spetz: So everyone to the computer lab, we will be playing the most famous battles in Day of Defeat: Source
Students: Yay!
lol i wonder can teachers do that?
I wanna pursue a career in history. I'd love to be a teacher. Preferably in college, but secondary would also be cool :)
If I can't be any of those I'd like to be historian :P
Policing is not solely based on academics. A lot of people who are hired as police officers are between the ages of 25-30. They look for life experience, maturity and responsibility - key characteristics of a good police officer.
A lot of police officers are also ex-military so if you're a bit younger then maybe a few years in the service will bode you well with future endeveors.
I refuse to grow up. But for now, my wife and I run our own company from the home. Going on six years and we haven't gone bankrupt yet. We do computer graphics, templates for websites, full text and all that fun stuff. And in the mean time, I'm also back in school for game art design.
but I still refuse to grow up!
I don't have any idea however my parents do. They want me to become a pharmacist or some other high paying boring job. I'm in debate on whether or not I should listen to them. I mean, I could probably make myself happy doing other things with the money I earn but I AM spending the majority of my day there so... who knows? I'll figure it out by senior year... hopefully.
Sweet I didn't know you play the Sax frosty. We need to jam sometime I got a Tenor and a Alto I can bring what you got? I was a music major for a semester but it just wasn't for me.
I'm a state correctional officer. I go to prison everyday and I get released from prison every day at the end of my 8 (or 16 depending) hour shift. The cons of being a prison cop: You're out numbered, severely. The pros: At least you know who you're dealing with. It is by no means a safe job, but it's a good one. Here's a glimpse into my job. I have yet to have a riot, but I've responded to plenty of fights and other emergencies. These were the least graphic I could find.
