I never saw anything about this, so I made one myself.
Today marked a historic momment(for me), VALVe has released Steam Prepaid 'Wallet Codes'. So far only at Gamestop(I'ts not on Amazon yet and idk if Gamestop is worldwide). They come in 20$ and 50$ variants, but if you want to buy on other sites i would stick with the visa prepaids or something. But as soon as i see a Gamestop when i get to where our flights stop fornour move, im rushing it for a 50 and a 20. I think its the best thing VALVe has done for steam so far, so i say thanks valve. What do you guys think?

From what im seeing: you buy the card, redeem the code, then the money goes into your steam wallet.

That is just great. Im so happy they finally are allowing this :DD

Yeah I could see this being a good thing for those without credit cards and what not. Or for those not wanting to use their card online.

And yes it is a gift card. You could give it to someone else. Around Christmas time I may ask family for steam gift cards now.

For those that will use it I'm sure it's great. For me it's a 15 minute round trip to buy something to buy something I could have bought in one transaction without the 15 minute round trip. I would have the game installed and be playing it by the time I would be getting back.

I'm surprised it took this long for these to come out. My Christmas shopping just got a lot easier :)

This.

But I use a reusable pre paid card because I don't trust all the internet money wizardry.

Will still be a great gift idea for people to give to kids to buy video games... Only downfall I see is why not get a Visa gift card so they could buy anything?

There's a $4 activation fee for a Visa Gift card. Also it won't work outside the United States, which I learned when I bought one to use on the awesome website GOG.com which is actually hosted in Europe.

You know the more I thought of it and how using the Steam wallet card might be a little safer than using your card online, I see this as a good idea. Will I go through with it? Probably not...but that will be on me if something happens.

Not a bad idea on Valve's part, but you could just buy a normal VISA Gift Card at the store and use that for not only steam and web-based transactions, but also in person transactions, so whoever you give the gift card to will be able to use it for whatever they want. (Unless your avoiding the activation fee)

If you buy yourself giftcards over and over to do online based transactions(like I use to do a few years ago), just open a checking account and get a debit card. Much easier.

Bumping an old thread to laugh at myself.

Money is tight and Steam just released Carrier Command. Wasn't interested until I checked out the trailer. Game looks sweet. Can't afford to buy it but just realized I could use various reward programs that I am in and go buy a $50 steam card from Gamestop for free. Oh the irony, lol.

I redact my earlier statements. This is a great idea.

lol aint it great to realize that something you didnt like at first thought, can actually become beneficial.
