Just imagine waking up in the middle of the night with those crawling on your face......

This comment reminds me of a scene in the Japanese film 'Uzumaki'. (Warning, weirdness ahead)
The mother is in the hospital because she is afraid of spirals, and has cut off some of the flesh on her fingers and toes because of the pattern and is bent on destroying anything that is spiral shaped. She wakes up one night with a millipede crawling into her ear (The point being, that the cochlea in your ear is spiral shaped, although she does not know this.) She wakes up and freaks out, pulling it out and throwing it on the ground besides her bed. It coils up into a spiral, and she freaks, and throws a bedside vase at it, and she thinks it is dead, but there is no body. She looks underneath her bed, and sees the millipede, still coiled up and then she sees the face of her dead husband, who was obsessed with the spiral shape, and eventually died because of it (He twisted his body into a coil in a washing machine... yeah..) he tells her that he wants her to join him in the spiral, and that the spiral is inside of her, inside her ear and mind. This causes her to take a pair of scissors and stab them through her ear. In the original comics, she survives a few days but with no balance and reduced brain power, though she does die because of it. Mmmyep.
