Interesting article on Gamespot about CQ. Sounds like a lot of sad news for the BF series if DICE keeps this up with future BF content.

[ame]http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6380983/does-close-quarters-constrain-bf3-too-much[/ame]

Highlights (lowlights?):
"I managed to get my hands on most of the new weapons...[but] the inadequacy of other weapons on the roster became apparent after a few short rounds. The ranges at which firefights are taking place in CQ negate the design of most class-specific guns."

"The main idea of Battlefield 3 is that when any of these classes play outside their role, they are at a disadvantage. When you bring everything into CQB...the result is that all classes are forced into using powerhouses, like shotguns, or weapons with high rates of fire. Having all classes play virtually the same way..."

"The new mode Gun Master even appears to be a direct lift of the Gun Game from COD."

"I also had time to test HD destruction and was left feeling the claims to be exaggerated."

"...Close Quarters has also affected the vanilla game...claymores were recently patched to no longer persist after death because it broke the balance of Close Quarters."

"Battlefield has always been a strategic game with a rock-paper-scissors approach, and Close Quarters seems to be making everyone use scissors."

"Is it actually Battlefield, or Battlefield chasing a competitor's market share?"

And the real kicker: "It could be fun, but there's one big question: Is this Battlefield?"

My answer to that question is no.

Only bought it through premium for the guns. I thought I was saving money by buying premium, but then realized it was a ripoff since I already own B2K =(

CQB makes me think of the fun we had in BF2 playing infantry only games, but , not sure I am making a good anology with that.

'Gun Master' was not a lift of COD, it originated from CS:S, I was surprised that a gamespot writer would not know this. Secondly, this guy must not have been around as the claymore patch was put in months ago, way before the CQB. They made claymores, c4, beacons etc. despawn on death.

I can't take this writer to be that accurate. If he made mistakes I could easily see, I won't know if the rest of what he wrote is legit. Furthermore, I won't judge until I play it myself.

Lastly, he play the PS3 version, BF3 is NOT a PS3 orientated game. It's all about the PC, the handling will be different.

Last Lastly, I believe that this expansion is BF3 showing off that it can do all out warfare, and CQB better than COD. If you don't like CQB, thats fine, there's maps for you.

I do NOT believe that Battlefield is 'permanently' changing its gameplay to be more like COD. Hang around for the next DLC's, those will be really good.

one big thing alot of other big titles dont have: vehicle fights.

cod will never get to that point.

I'd just like the say the GameSpot guy who wrote that seems like an idiot. It's probably a guy who's played the game very little or doesn't really know what he's talking about.

As for the CQB "is this battlefield"... Well there's a reason it's called Close Quarters Combat. It's for the people who like playing infantry only maps and run around shooting. I doubt anyone is expecting such a small map to be all tactical & squad like. I'd be lying if I said I didn't think they made CQB with some COD players in mind, because i do think that. I don't think they're trying to be like COD, they're simply trying to get more of a variety and having a variety isn't a bad thing.

ThundrRok is right about the Gun Game thing. Gun Game Originated from one of the Source Games i believe. It might have been Counter Strike 1.6, Day Of Defeat or CSS. Not sure which one was first. However it was most definitely not COD.

Thundr Is correct on the "Gun Game" . That's old school CS.

well it may not be "battlefield" but it defitnly is "fun" so no regrets getting premium and the dlc =-

The true battlefield takes place everywhere may be in close quarters or in open combat. Dice is taking a really good approach on how to place the game play in bf3. By adding the CQB dlc it allows the other spectrum of players who like to have a constant gun fight with out constantly playing tdm. Weapon wise, the dlc does not force players to use faster shooter guns, true players know how to use their favorite weapon in any situation

Actually for all of you that are wondering, gungame has been around for years. Friends of mine used to play it on Doom, back in the 90s. Might not be the original game to do that though.

From what i've seen of CQ, most people have gravitated towards higher rpm guns and shotguns. I really couldn't see myself using the AK-74M/G3A3/L85A2 on those maps too well. They're too slow to be useful. If someone were to pop out from around a corner, spraying a high rof gun, there isn't a thing I could do. I can see why every class would play the same, since each class has access to either a high rpm weapon, or a shotgun.

Not trying to tear down Thundr's comment, but if I remember correctly, after the patch, claymores/c4 stayed 5 seconds after death, and could have been used, if you were revived. Obviously claymores didn't require you to be alive to use them, but it became rather annoying to get a kill, run around a corner, just to be blown up by claymore that should have despawned.

Ah okay, I didn't know that about Gun Game.

And while they may have made the C4/claymore change months ago, how do you know that wasnt still for CQ back when they started working on it?

Yes, I agree that they are trying to show off BF in all out warfare, including CQ, but its just that. They're trying to 1-up CoD. I would prefer DICE to stick to what makes Battlefield great and to build on that, not look to the competition and try to steal their fanbase.

I wasn't necessarily saying this is a permanent direction, but the fact that they are taking so many things from other games, instead of making their own game with their own ideas is concerning.

I am looking forward to the other expansions though, and who knows, maybe CQ won't be so bad, but from what I've seen/read so far, it doesn't interest me =P.

There game has Things no other game has, it already has semi close quarters maps of it's own, why not steal your competitors players with one dlc that it's hard core fans can choose to ignore. If CoD could Im sure they too would be doing the same.
